April 15, 201610 yr As an aside, Pete Rose was interviewed by Bob Valvano on Bob's radio show in Louisville a couple of days ago and Pete was asked who was the best player he ever played with.....and he answered.............................Mike Schmidt (Phillies). Which is a bit surprising since Pete played with Frank Robinson. Pete has always said that, at least every time I've heard him answer that question. Schmidt was a Baaaaad Man!

The Reds had nine straight hits off Bob Forsch, who came on to relieve Jim Clancy, who didn't retire a single batter. The first out of the inning was made by Browning, and then came the nine straight knocks off Forsch. I think the Reds batted for nearly forty minutes. It was crazy!!!

April 18, 201610 yr Mario was my man back then...I can't remember how many times he came close but it seemed like a lot of times back then. Soto was my favorite pitcher ever at that time! Loved him! Too bad he played on so many bad teams. I was a pitcher back then and tried to emulate his circle change-up. He was THE MAN in my book!

Schmidt was a really great player as were Morgan, Robinson and Bench. Unbelievable that he played with those 3 alone not to mention Perez, Seaver and many other very good ones. I remember as a kid watching Schmidt and Garvey when they were batting and thinking there was no way the Reds pitcher would get them out. Jack Clark and Bonds did the same as I got older.

Another amazing fact about this totally crazy ballgame- the Reds batted for nearly forty minutes in the bottom of the first and yet the entire game lasted only 2 hours and 16 minutes !!!!
