Bengals and Brandon LaFell agree to deal

Not sexy, but I like it. WR is clearly a need given the departures of Marvin Jones & Sanu. Signing Lafell isn't earth shattering but will allow them to draft a young WR & groom him.

Agree CC, well stated.

And if LaFell has a good year and doesn't drop the ball we may even be calling it sexy by the end of the year.

Agree, he has the potential to contribute and be a nice complement to AJ.

Meh...signing doesn't float my boat that much. Obviously, I hope he (and thus, the Bengals) succeed, but not really going to expect too much. I'd put him in the Brandon Tate category...anything you get out of them is great, you just hope they don't cost you big time if they fail. Much more excited about the Dansby signing earlier today.

Brandon Tate!? And I love me some Brandon Tate...

I am thinking more in the Sanu (but with better experience) category but I admit I know very little about LaFell other than he drops too many balls and the Pats moved him on to Cincinnati.

Lafell posted some big numbers in New England (who doesn't?). Last offseason, he had a foot injury & started on PUP list. He returned to the active roster but never seemed to get things going. Bigger WR and decent downfield threat. Like I said, nothing sexy but should be a nice complement to all of the other receiving threats on the roster.

Signing Lafell gives the Bengals more flexibility in the first round of the draft. Might be able to select a higher-rated DB or DL in round one instead of fifth-best WR.

If the Pats are willing to pass, you should too.

I like this pick up for the Bengals... Anytime you add a guy to the locker room who has experienced winning playoff games... It can only help.

Remember, we lost 2 receivers... They're still gonna draft at least one more.

Lafell, like Dansby, is a short term solutions.

100% agree... But the way the NFL is structured, you're always gonna have a team mixed with guys that have long-term deals and those that have short-term deals.

As long as the short-term free agent pick ups are good character guys with a season or two left in their tanks... And they don't break the bank... I'm okay with getting a few guys like that in camp.

I'm more concerned with the following:

Can Dalton continue to play at a high NFL QB level after the thumb injury? After losing 2 wr's that he developed chemistry with? After losing Hue and working with a third offensive coordinator?

Will Hill bounce back and run better this year?

Will the Center position be addressed?

Will our Kicker be more consistent or will the Bengals replace him?

Will Vontaze mature into the great player he has the ability to become?

Etc, etc. :)

Agree, all valid questions.

We'll find out if the wins were talent based as the anti- Marvin group would proclaim or if his 'system' is what is winning games. Keep in mind this group continued to play well after losing key coordinators over the past few seasons.
