I like this list except for Nicholas County. I put Nicholas County in the you have to prove it to me first category. I need to hear a lot of details and information before I can buy in.

I can agree with this state on them proving it. They surprised me with keeping and playing close to Fairview in the playoffs and only losing to them by a point. There are other losses that have me questioning as well. I can give you some stat insight on several things.

 

They return a team with a total of 3,209 yards of offense and 43 Touchdowns. Defense returns a team with 10 INTs and 10 Fumble Recoveries. They put up 3,742 yards in 2015 so basically they are only losing 533 yards from there team. They return 9 guys who have atleast 20+ tackles. 6 of those guys have over 40+ tackles.

If there schedule is the same I predict a 9-1 record and could be 10-0. The best teams they played last year were Bethlehem, West Carter, Bishop Brossart and Paris and Fairview. Those teams were fairly good last season but this season they will be okay. Bethlehem will be the best they play in my opinion.

Nicholas offense returns two great running backs. 1 with 1,345 and 14 Touchdowns and the other with 778 yards and 14 Touchdowns. Two decent recievers in a run heavy offense as well. I'm sure the Nicholas County faithful can give us some more..

In watching Beechwood's baseball team, I have grown to be very optimistic about Brayden Bunch at QB this fall. This sophomore is the starting catcher, controls the game like a seasoned veteran, strong arm, and is very composed as a sophomore on this senior dominated team. Think he might be a surprise to football enthusiastics.

Do you got any imformation on how he did in JV in football?

Beechwood JV only played 4 or 5 games last year. I don't know all the results. I believe they beat New Cath and Conner. They lost 14-7 to Campbell County. Burch is a good leader on the field. I believe he is still developing in his QB skills but has potential.

The thing I've noticed about Beechwood football since there last title is they are throwing the ball a lot more.. I expect Burch to be fine at QB and the staff to give him some safe throws early into the season and open it up before the district games.

That looks about right to me. I know that Raceland has some skill positions on offense to replace (RB's, WR) from graduation. They should have some pretty good Soph.'s, Fr. that lack in varsity game experience, we will see how they can step up. Raceland's defense should be a strong point, especially early. .....jmo

When the 1A "top teams" conversation comes up. mentioning Beechwood and Pikeville are always a must.

Defense early for Raceland will be ahead of there offense until they catch up in about week 3.
