10th Region Tournament Preview

Featured Replies

The 2015/16 season has came and gone in a flash. Now it’s crunch time for every team across the region, it’s win or go home. The 10th region seen some good action this season, like always. Their’s a favorite but their’s a few that can win it. Let’s take a look at the matchups.

Campbell County will be the host of the 10th Region Tournament this season.

George Rogers Clark vs. St. Patrick:

These two teams have not met this season. GRC comes in at 17-10 and 10-3 (region) averaging 61.2 points per game and only allowing 50.4 points per game. GRC has won 3 straight and 6 of their last 7 games.

St. Patrick comes in at 9-23, 4-10 (region) averaging 34 points a game, while allowing 46.8 points per game. The Lady Saints have been struggling badly this new year, in fact, St. Patrick has only won 3 games since January 1st, this includes a 6 game and a 9 game losing streaks.

Harrison County @ Campbell County:

These two teams met once earlier this season, January 25th at Campbell County, the Lady Camels didn’t have a problem with Harrison county as they cruised to a 85-34 victory. Lady Camels have won 3 straight and 5 of their last 7 games. Campbell County comes in averaging 60 points per game while allowing 48.7 points per game.

Harrison county comes in at 8-23. Lady Breds have been struggling badly as of late, actually, they were riding a 12 game losing streak as they headed into their district tournament match with Robertson County, which they won, 59-45.

Mason County vs. Bourbon County:

The Lady Royals are the most dominate team in the 10th region and they back it up every game. Mason County has been red hot lately, riding a 8 game win streak and have only lost 2 games since January 1st, Holmes 54-51 and region foe, Campbell County 54-41. Since January 6th, (Loss to Cov Holmes), the Lady Royals have went 14-1.

Bourbon County hosted Mason County back on February 16th and it didn’t go so well for the Lady Colonels as Mason County cruised past them, 64-38. Lady Colonels played GRC three times this season, played two of the three games closely before getting blasted by 19 by GRC in the district championship game.

Nicholas County vs. Scott:

The first meeting between the Nicholas County Lady Jackets and the Scott Lady Eagles. Nicholas County has won 3 of their last 4 games including winning their district tournament.

Covington Scott was riding a 5 game win streak before falling to Campbell County in the district championship game.

Feb. 29 – 7:30 PM – Harrison County @ Campbell County

Mar. 1 – 6:00 PM – Mason County vs. Bourbon County

Mar. 4 – 6:00 PM – Semi-Finals

Mar. 4 – 7:30 PM – Semi-Finals

TOP 10 PLAYERS:

1. Whitney O’Mara (Mason County): Whitney is averaging right at 12 points a game and has scored 284 points for the Lady Royals.

2. Taylor Clos (Campbell County): The sophomore guard is having an outstanding year for the Lady Camels, averaging right at 14 points a game and shooting a 30% from long range.

3. Alexis Stapleton (Scott): Another outstanding player for the Lady Eagles. Alexis averaging right at 18 points a game, she’s the second leading scorer on her team.

4. Anna Clephane (Scott): I mentioned that Scott had two really good players, well here’s the second one, Anna Clephane. Miss Clephane is also having an outstanding year for the Lady Eagles, averaging 20 points a game. She wasn’t a top ten 10 player to watch at the beginning of the season but as the season went on, she made her way into the top 10.

5. Sydney Anderson (GRC): Averaging 14 points a game for the Lady Cardinals. She has helped lead them to a 16-10 record and more than likely another district championship for the Lady Cards.

6. Autumn Martin (Nicholas County): Made 61 3 pointers on the season and comes into the regional tournament averaging 14.1 points a game.

7. Kylie Kramer (Campbell County): Averaging 9 points and 5 boards a game for the Lady Camels.

8. Maaliyah Owens (GRC): Another weapon for Coach Graham to use as she’s averaging 15 points per game for the Lady Cards.

9. Haleigh Yazell (Bourbon County): Despite Bourbon County woes this season, Haleigh Yazell leds them in scoring at 17 points a game and have made 48 3 pointers on the season.

10. Chariss Wilson (Bourbon County): Scored a total of 378 points on the season without making a single 3 pointer.

TEAM RANKINGS:

1. Mason County (26-3)

2. Campbell County (21-9)

3. Scott (18-12).

4. George Rogers Clark (17-10)

5. Bourbon County (17-15)

6. Nicholas County (15-14)

7. Harrison County (8-23)

8. St. Patrick (9-23)

Mason goes back to back Region Champs

My prediction:

I am curious as to why you pick Mason to win the region again. What do you think makes them better then above 3 other teams?

From my estimation, I believe we can conclude Mason has the most proven team in the region. Yes, you can argue that Campbell beat them, on a night where the lady royals shot less than 30% (21% on the night?) from the field. And looking at the stats from the season, that is the only night they have shot that poorly. Between the Lady Royals defense and transition game they have the ability to consistently play at a higher level than anyone else in the region which logically puts them as the top seed. BUT, this is tournament basketball in the most competitive pound for pound basketball State in the nation, so, it's anyone's game. Also, any team with a starting five that played through the Final Four the previous year should be treated as a team that can play consistently on a high level.

Would it be arrogant of me to believe that Mason, Clark, Scott and Campbell will advance to the semis?

I started to put GRC shouldn't have a problem advancing but took it out because I felt it wasn't right to do so.

Cantrall currently has Mason and Campbell separated by half a point.

Mason has four to five girls that could be in the top ten players.

You could say the same thing about Campbell. They have 4 girls that could be in the top ten as well.

I think if they meet then it would be a very good game. I realize cc won the first meeting but I also know mason cnty was in the midst of a very tough part of their schedule. When I look at the whole body of work this season you have to like mason. Campbell does have 9 losses this year so you know they are prone to bad games.

Agree. GRC is up 54-12 at the half.

Those 9 losses were to some very good teams....

No doubt regarding the losses to good teams. Again, just saying the body of work meaning mason has only 3 loses on the year with an overall better sos rating

That said, Campbell, as they have proved is more than capable of beating them.
