I can tell you that none of the big dogs in the 11th (SC, HC, Dunbar) want any part of Madison Central at region time.

Does this Cov Cath group have the same hunger that the last couple of their teams have shown? I have watched them a couple of times this year and they seem a bit casual about things.

Very fun game to watch.

CovCath jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead but Madison Central hit some big shots and had the lead until midway through the second quarter. At this point CovCath went to a very agressive zone defense, alternating between a 2-3 and either a 3-2 or 1-2-2. Madison Central couldn't get any looks and CovCath used several deflections to get some easy points in transition, flipping a 5 point deficit into a 9 point lead pretty quickly.

The second half the visitors led most of the way, but Madison Central kept clawing back, eventually tying the score early in the fourth. CovCath regained the lead, but failed to ice the game at the free throw line which allowed Madison Central several opportunities to tie the game in the last minute, but the Indians were unable to convert on these opportunities.

 

Miller from Madison Central was the star of the game in my opinion. He ferociously attacked the offensive glass in the second half and willed the Indians back into the game.

Madison Central looks a whole lot better than they did early in the year, and while they aren't as talented as the top teams in the 11th I think they can challenge anybody in the 11th region tournament.

 

I was really impressed with Ruthsatz for CovCath. He got a ton of deflections and steals and had a great feel for closing down passing lanes. I was a little disappointed watching VonHandorf. After seeing him play so well at state the last 2 years I was expecting he would be a top 10 player in the state. He wasn't bad by any means, but didn't really do anything to stand out as an elite player. CovCath is a solid team, not the best team in the state, but probably in the top 10.

 

I would disagree on the CVH comment. I'm more of a fan of his game now than in the past. I think he's letting the game come to him more so than he did in the past. The reason this team does so well is their balance.

 

CVH can still score, but he's playing a role that that gives his team the best chance of winning this year. That should be applauded. Unfortunately, it usually isn't, but I bet his coach appreciates it.

The topic is a fair one, and certainly a team with 3 starting sophomores is going to have to learn some lessons the hard way. Hopefully last night, in a hard fought road win against a quality team, they learned some of them. The ceiling is high for this team, but a young team is going to give you some inconsistency that can be detrimental come Tourney time.

Fair question. This bunch is a bit more laid back than some previous teams. Talent is there.

Impressed with this road win starting 3 sophs. However, at this point in the season they can no longer be regarded as just sophs.
