February 5, 201610 yr "sandwich - an item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with meat, cheese, or other filling between them" Yes it is. Hot dog consists of only 1 "bun". No bread though it is made out of the same stuff. Buns have that smooth finish on them. Bread has crust. What about a hamburger? It too has its own name.
