I am a huge Dolphins fan but this ranking was supposed to be on playoff and Super Bowl performance.

Any Dolphins fan will tell you that the '73 Dolphins were better than the undefeated ones the year before based on Playoffs.

They throttled the Bengals (AFC Central Co-Champs), Raiders (AFC West Champs) and the Minnesota Vikings. Never trailed in the playoffs and I heard last week had the largest halftime margin of a Super Bowl run til Carolina this year. :idunno:

I don't like the Cowboys but to not crack the Top Ten? Really? :stop:

The '79 Steelers did not perform as well as the '78 Squad but they are marked 32 spots better? :ohbrother:

86 Giants are way too low.

14-2

Beat the 49ers 49-3

Beat the Redskins 17-0

Beat the Broncos 39-20

LT was league MVP also

Parcells was coach of the year

I like the list...well the very top of it at least! :)

That's a head scratcher to me. I loved watching that Rams team. But they barely beat the Titans in the Super Bowl. Barely. How does that rank #1. :isurrender:

I guess because they would beat all of the teams below them head to head! #GreatestShowonTurf

The “Greatest Show on Turf” is the greatest team in Super Bowl history. The Rams ranked first in the NFL in total yards and total points (would do so in each of the next two seasons as well). Kurt Warner became just the second quarterback to throw for more than 40 touchdowns and was named league MVP. Marshall Faulk amassed 2,429 yards from scrimmage and scored twelve touchdowns, he was named Offensive Player of the Year, while finishing second in MVP voting. The defense finished the season ranked sixth in yards and fourth in points. A team known for its offense won its Super Bowl thanks to a defensive play that is one of the most memorable in Super Bowl history.

Looks like it's based on more than just SB or playoff performance

There's no explanation for the 86 Giants to be so low. They dominated in the regular season and playoffs. Heck, they ranked the 90 Giants ahead of them. The 86 team was much better imo.

I would disagree with that premise.

And if you want to go the "whole case" approach I again point to the 1973 Miami Dolphins. Played a tougher schedule than the year before. Finished 12-2 with one of the losses being when Shula sat a lot of players to get ready for the playoffs. Decimated the field. Hall of Fame members: Bob Griese, Paul Warfield, Larry Csonka, Jim Langer, Larry Little, Bob Kuechenberg, Manny Fernandez, Nick Bounocoti, and I think Dick Anderson maybe.

The No Name Defense and the offense with today's rules would still be in the mix.

For the record, I can't see Rams scoring as much vs. the early 90's Cowboy D or the SF Defense.

Totally with you on that one. The '86 team was as dominant as the '85 Bears.

Wow what's it like to cheer for a team that's won a Super Bowl, you guys?

I see a lot of teams on that last that beat the Vikings either in the Super Bowl or in the NFC Championship game.

I would disagree with that premise.

For the Record, TGSOT would scorch them both!

Miami had quite the passing game in 1984. Didn't help them vs the 49'ers.

All speculation of course but if the greatest show on turf only put up 23 vs the Titans and still lost 3 games in the season, I think I will let results speak for themselves. Not to mention how mediocre their defense was.

Defense was 4th in the league in points allowed and 6th in yards allowed...so you are smart if you didn't mention the defense being mediocre, because they weren't. Miami 84 didn't have Marshall Faulk either.

Both teams played very conservatively in that SB.
