The Quest Begins for Red Devils

Featured Replies

I talked with a parent of a GC player today and he informed me that they had about 40 out for their 1st practice.I do know they lost a few players to transfers.

As I understand it from a Greenup County source. Those numbers include Freshmen.

See post 45. Thanks for the info though.

WOW, go to work for a couple of days and miss all the good stuff.

My first opinion, Russell has fielded better teams than last year, TRUE.

Even winning a championship will boost everyones ego until the first loss of the next season, then it is usually the referees fault- ask a fan.

Last year was different. OC lost to Owensboro in the reg season.

Owensboro are the RED DEVILS, strike one.

Owensboro runs the wing-t- strike two.

When you use an offense that anyone can purchase , and your close neighbors are willing to teach the workings of it- PRICELESS !!!!!

Hard work payed off for the boys last year, teams getting knocked out before we had to play them - definitely helped. Belfry playing at Russell, big help.

When Russell played Newport for the state championship and won in overtime by one point- the trophy should have been given to them right there.

Newport was the best team we played, THEY RETURN 8 on defense and 6 on offense this year.

Do I see another state championship being the Devils and the Wildcats ???

OKAY PONDER.....

1)Best Team - in 25 years at homecoming , only the 2005 Champs will be remembered.

2)Best 2005 Opponent - Toss up , Boyd Co or Newport ( Russell generally goes into a funk on the road against quality) ... Mercer and Belfry rate up high also. OC - no fundamentals - basketball on turf ...

3)Belfry at home , no road funk - huge help ... we came out hot ... too conservative in 2nd half , loss of Horn was felt on both sides of the ball..

4) This year - my fear is first quality opponent ( outside Ashland and Boyd) won't be until third or forth round of playoffs ...hard not to get fat against all cupcakes ...

2006 Forecast .. 2006(Kasey) is setting itself up to be like 2004(Josh) ..... Lot's of stats for Kasey , lot's of hype for Kasey and then a trip to Belfry for all the marbles. 2005 , Coach McGlone going to the Pass - (Tommy Brown to Horn,Kasey) got us over the hump against Belfry - Red Soviet Army. 2005 ,Coach Morris adjusted the defense to shutdown Belfry's fullback. 2005, Experienced Seniors - actually played in the emptiness of losing to Belfry on the road 2004 and also to LLoyd Memorial - on the road 2003. Both games could have been won ..

If this years very capable , large Senior Class combined with the Coaches can continue to rise to every challenge and learn from the past , no reason the real season shouldn't last all the way to the Pizza Box .... 2006 ,Should be exciting(lot's of Hype) - Mr Sparks should raise the price of admission. And Norman's the price of Tee Shirts .... Go Devils..

2a is the weakest class in the state. Russell's district is a joke! I do not see Russell repeating this yr. and i definitely don't see them goin undefeated. I see them loosing say ohh maybe the second game of the season:sssh: :jump:

Yeah, you would out of your maroon eyes. Don't be a hater, you did this stuff last year. Just give some local kids some respect. Russell(a 2A school) did just fine against Ashland(a #a school) last year. Come on, envy is a sin.

Let the festivities begin!

The Devils will have to actually suit-up and play all four quarters of each and every district game. (It's really not our fault that other teams in the district have not been competitive over the years. Every district has its dominant teams year in and year out.) That being said, we do get a measure of our strengths and weaknesses in the three non-district tune-ups with Greenup, Ashland and Boyd Co. True to form, however, Ivan will surely use these matches to further shape and tinker with the formidible offense known as the wing-T. And like last year, we could come out and play flat and lose one or more of these games. (Reference last year's manhandling by Boyd Co.) But also, just like last year, I see the Devils running the table through the district and firing on all 11 pistons come playoff time. Kasey Clark will be a man among boys until we see Belfry. He'll get as much yardage and points as Ivan will allow. For the Devil fans, I predict this to be yet another enjoyble football season home and away. And knowing how much fun the trip to the Pizza Box was last year, I can't wait to paint up the vehicle and hit the road again this December.
