The Quest Begins for Red Devils

2a is the weakest class in the state. Russell's district is a joke! I do not see Russell repeating this yr. and i definitely don't see them goin undefeated. I see them loosing say ohh maybe the second game of the season:sssh: :jump:

I agree in that Russell's 2A district is very, very weak. Russell usually has a weak region to contend with also. They usually are not challenged untill the state AA semi's. Having said that, I do not consider Russell weak at all. Just my observations and I really don't have a "dog in the fight" so to speak.

 When your team(Ashland), A.) wins its class and B.) wins against Russell, you can gloat. Until then its just crying. :sssh:

You can call it crying if you wish but the fact is the 2A dist. that Russell is in is week. It has been for a very long time. I am not taking anything away from Russell, they deserve credit for what they have done but anyone who has followed high school football will tell you that that district is weak. Also, the Ashland football program does not have to take a backseat to anyone. They are rich in Tradition just as your Red Devils are.

I don't think that anyone in their right mind can argue that AAA is MUCH tougher than AA so to me anyway the state title argument in that case is weak. Congrats to Russell again on their sucsess through the years, you deserve all the praise. By the way cvillecat, I 100% agree on Ashland taking a back seat to no one in this area as far as history and tradition goes.

No one ever said that AA was tougher than AAA. But if you are going to talk you better be able to back it up. See statement B.

Yes. Russell's district is weak. No one ever claimed otherwise. Does Belfry playing in a weak district diminish their back to back titles? No.

Yes. Ashland for the time being must take a back seat. Because Russell has won the last 2 meetings and 4 of 6 since 2000

Forgive Russell for being in the Eastern part of the state. But the way it looks. Whether your 1-A, 2-A, 3-A, Russell is the better team in Eastern Ky football. Say what you want. That is a fact. And when you are the tops every one aims at that target on your back. Which Russell cares with pride. So wheather your a Tomcat, Musketeer, Lion, Raider, Rambler, Comet, Bulldog, etc.... You have to admit that Russell is tops when it comes to football in this part of the state. HANDS DOWN.:fire: :fire: :fire:

This year Mercer County will be a 5A enrollment but playing at the 2A level. I think that will make 2A a little tougher.

Mercer could be a very tough team. Harrodsburg always produces some great athletes with exceptional speed so it will indeed make it a tougher Dist. but I think Russell will come away the Champion.

No matter what the district competition is Russell deserves credit for their Championship. Russel, Belfry,or any other team should not have their titles diminished just because of the competition. You still have to line up and play and Russell did just that. No one here claimed that their Title was unearned.Russell has a great program and has beaten most area teams on a consistant basis, but the Ashland football tradition does not take a back seat to no one. They have earned their respect just as Russell has and that can't be taken away. As they say in Raceland, "Pride & Tradition Never Graduate".

Wow, I thought Russell’s style was to be understated and humble. Just the coaches it seems.

Reminds me of an old song: “Oh Lord it’s hard to be humble – when you’re perfect in every way”. :D

Good luck to Russell this season.

Trivia question how many 2A state champions have Boyd County beaten the last few years and where did they finish in their district and or playoff quest?

I believe it's two...unfortunately for the Lions, that seems to be their early peak each season. After last year's win over Russell, the team doused Damron with water and one would have thought they'd just won state...too bad they still had six more weeks of regular season football to play (which resulted in a 1-5 record with the lone win coming in the final game against Greenup).
