I Thought I Was a Liberal Until...

Featured Replies

While I can't take any in (only have a 1 BR house), I just signed up yesterday to be a volunteer with Catholic Charities to assist in refugee resettlement here in Louisville (hopefully will be approved to mentor a family).

Catholic Charities is a great organization and you should be commended for your willingness to get involved. Few who claim they will, actually do.

1. If they choose to, I hope it works out well for them.

2. As I stated, some, but very few actually do as they claim they would.

3. Not incomparable at all. Both speak to the 'do as I say, not as I do', 'it's the thought that counts', Liberal mindset.

Wow...we're rolling with stereotypes now. COOOOOLLLL :thumb:

I believe Americans on both sides of the aisle will be willing to help those who have escaped persecution. Where would we be if someone here wouldn't have done that for our ancestors?

I don't want commendation. I began working with refugees in high school. Back then, it was Haitian refugees. Because I knew French, I was an ESL tutor. The opportunities I've had working with refugees has always been positive. It is extraordinarily uplifting and joyful work.

I'm grateful to be back in Louisville and able to volunteer again.

I could not disagree more strongly to this part of your post. I could go into all the reasons, based on my personal experiences. But in the end, it would be taken as a bashing. But if you don't want to be put into a Conservative bucket of paint, for a Liberal to dip their brush in and make broad, indiscriminate strokes, please stop.

You have your experiences, I have mine. I call them like I see them and for the most part, in my experience, the broad brush applies. If you have not noticed, I do not do the bite my tongue thing or the politically correct thing very well.

So...do you actually want to discuss others experiences? Or has your view been irrevocably cemented by your experiences?

Neither is nearly liberal enough. Write-in.
My Aunt was just in from Tucson -- her little hippy heaven in AZ -- and HRC is definitely out, The Bern is starting to get a little too conservative for her...
In fairness, I did hear "Hillary", "militia", "taking our guns" and the like just about everywhere we went. Heck, the day after the San Bernadino shootings, the local gun shop had something along the lines of an "Arise and Arm" poster on their front door. Two buildings down from the local paper.

Son and daughter-in-law are currently fish out of water, for sure.

If I remember correctly, he is one of those liberal professors, right?

I am always willing to listen to arguments from the other side. Feel free to enlighten me.

I'll be clear:

I'm not saying this to be mean or disrespectful.

If the Bern, a self- proclaimed economic SOCIALIST, is too conservative, who is further left than him?

Correct. I hesitate to say "right". Daughter-in-law works from home for the UW (Washington) University Press.

I believe The Bern is still her pick, he just better watch what he does...
