70's and '80's Music trivia Revisited: Can You Name that Tune !!!

Featured Replies

I love good song lyrics. I think words to the songs we grew up with hold special meaning for us. Many of us can relate to a lot of the words. We've lived some of them, we've loved to some of them, and we've been comforted by them after losses in our lives. I'll give you some lyrics to special songs in my life and see if you can name the song. Bonus points if you can name the artists who recorded the tune. NO GOOGLING ... :)

1. "Johnny died one night , died in his bed

Bottle of whiskey , sleeping tablets by his head

Johnny's life passed him by like a warm summer day

If you listen to the wind you can still hear him play."

2. "Love of two is one

Here but now they're gone

Came the last night of sadness

And it was clear she couldn't go on

Then the door was open and the wind appeared

The candles blew and then disappeared

The curtains flew and then he appeared...

And she ran to him ; then they started to fly

They looked backward and said goodbye..."

3. ..." You understand now why you came this way

'Cause the truth you might be running from is so small

But it's as big as the promise, the promise of the coming day

So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are a-dyin'

And my love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain

I have my ship and all her flags are a-flyin'

She is all that I have left and music is her name

Think about how many times I have fallen

Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'

What Heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten..."

4. "I can hear windmills and rainbows

Whenever you're talkin' to me (Never say never)

I feel like swirling and dancin'

Whenever you're walking with me (Whenever you're walking with me)

You ripple like a river when I touch you (Let me touch you)

When I pluck your body like a string (Show you what I mean)

When I start dancin' inside ya (Oh, baby)

You make me wanna sing (I love you so)

Yeah (I love you so)... "

5. "You look in her eyes

The music begins to play

Hopeless romantics, here we go again

But after awhile, you're lookin' the other way

It's those restless hearts that never mend

Johnny come lately, ...

Will she still love you when you're not around?

There's so many things you should have told her

But night after night you're willing to hold her(just hold her)

Tears on your shoulder

There's talk on the street

It's there to remind you

Doesn't really matter which side your on

You're walking away and they're talkin' behind you

They will never forget you 'til somebody new comes along"

6." Once I rose above the noise and confusion

Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion

I was soaring ever higher but I flew too high

Though my eyes could see , I still was a blind man

Though my mind could think, I still was a mad man

I hear the voices when I'm dreaming

I can him them say ... "

7. " I looked out this morning and the sun was gone

Turned on some music to start my day

I lost myself in a familiar song

I closed my eyes and I slipped away...

So many people have come and gone

Their faces fade as the years go by

Yet I still recall as I wander on

As clear as the sun in the summer sky...

When I'm tired and thinking cold

I hide in my music, forget the day

And dream of a girl I used to know

I closed my eyes and she slipped away

She slipped away ."

I should have known I couldn't stump you. That's next to impossible. :)

Well, at least two of them are still out.

3 is Southern Cross but don't know if it was CS&N or CSN& Young at the time.

Listened to 6 of the 7 songs today while I was making deliveries.........I have ZERO Eagles in my music library.....:puke:

2. Valentine is done

Here but now they're gone

Romeo and Juliet

Are together in eternity

(Romeo and Juliet)

40, 000 men and women every day

(Like Romeo and Juliet)

40, 000 men and women every day

(Redefine happiness)

Another 40, 000 coming every day

(We can be like they are)

Come on baby...

This one may be just a tad harder(Hint: unless you are a fan of Mr Rodgers like I am or your rainbow's overdue ):

"In the beginning, I believed every word that you said

Now that you're gone my world is in shreds

Oh you loved me and left me

You took all the things that I needed so bad

I'm standing here wondering where is the love that I had

In the beginning, there was something of love that was mine

Now that it's gone, whoa I'm crying

Oh the time that it takes for a love to grow cold

is a wonder to me

I'm walking around with my head hanging down

tell me where is she

Don't forsake me cause I love you ... "

9. "A new road's waiting

You touched my life, whoa

Soft and warm on a summer's night

You're the only one, I told you

The only one I love

The lovely one (lovely one)

I'm thinking of

When the summer's gone, she'll be there

Standing by the light

Once she's been to where she's gone to

She should know wrong from right ... "

10. ..."Some are like water, some are like the heat

Some are a melody and some are the beat

Sooner or later they all will be gone

Why don't they stay young?

It's so hard to get old without a cause

I don't want to perish like a fading horse

Youth's like diamonds in the sun,

And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn't happen today,

So many songs we forgot to play

So many dreams swinging out of the blue

We'll let them come true..."

Note: Song is from around 1984. I love the song and lyrics but I've often thought if I had written the song I would have worded the one line " I don't want to perish like a fading waltz."

Damn I'm late to this party, but i'm digging the thread.

I was able to figure out a couple of them right away, and some that I should've known, but couldn't put my finger on them, and a couple I don't think I would have ever guessed even though I know the song. Now to prove my worth I'm struggling with 8, 9 & 10...but I'm not giving up and I promise not to google.
