Well the Birds finally kick off the basketball season Saturday night at Thomas More/ 6:30 and 8:00. Interested to hear some thoughts about this game, seeing as how Brossart will have about a half dozen games under their belt and a tough matchup with Bracken County on Friday.

Are there a lot of football players that will contribute at the varsity level? I'm wondering why the first game isn't until a week before Christmas.

All 5 seniors are footballers as are Finfrock, Greene, Posey and Noe. Those 9 will see a majority of the minutes along with LaFrange and Race. So to answer your question, that is one reason why they are starting later this year.

Unfortunately that is the state of Highlands basketball right now. They are going to have to fight for everything that they get this year, but I think this team seems to fit Kevin's style and tenacity.

Mustangs will be playing the second in 24 hours, and the second of five in six days.

I think it makes sense for Listerman to get those football kids 3 full weeks of live practice so they can get their legs and muscle memory acclimated to hoops.

 

If the Birds can keep Crawford from blowing up and they can use their physicality I think they can open up with a win.

 

Hard to say though with 9 players all just handing in their helmets 3 weeks ago. Brossart has been in the gym going full go atleast since October.

Only 3 support players and a bunch of freshmen who played football.

 

We did have key players who were a bit late coming in due to soccer.

 

Just taking the opportunity to poke a little jest at the Highlands guys, and flaunting the fact that we did indeed make the football playoffs this season.
