We'll never know for sure why there was no military response, though State and the White House were seeing the events real time.

 

We've heard about the gun running as a possible reason why we didn't respond.

 

But Clinton's and Panetta's claim that no military assets could get to Benghazi...well we now know that's not true.

Hillary must have been too busy meeting with the foreign interests donating to the Clinton foundation in hopes of scoring points with the state department. She couldn't be bothered with this. What difference did it make anyway?

Parts probably will not for a good long while. There were around 40 staff at the 'Annex' doing CIA-managed work. Recovering high tech weapons used against Gaddafi? Transferring high tech weapons through Turkey to Syrian opposition? Hard to say. And certainly the CIA (along with others) does not what that in full light.

 

Ambassador Stevens had dinner with Turkish representatives that night. The entire consulate function and Annex operations were kept low key with minimum security (local hired guns basically).

 

When something like this happens the entire State Department functions and key military functions are immediately notified in real time and with real time feeds. No one is sitting around saying 'wonder whats going with that attack in Benghazi'. Things start to happen from the very beginning. The only thing really needed at the top is permission to cross into foreign air space from State. Clearly, forces were actively readied (a source I know indicated that response unit in Spain was on-board their planes and ready to fly when they were told change uniforms - twice - before being called off). The permission never came.

 

What may be more troubling is that some reports indicate that the ex-SEALS on top of the Annex were lazing targets. This would have only been done if laser guided assets were on-station or very close (maybe off-shore waiting for the permission). This action would have given away their specific location allowing the highly proficient mortar team to target them.

 

Given the desire to keep the CIA operation details under wraps the full details will likely only come out years from now, if then.

I consider Hillary much worse than Trump. Her only equal is our current president.
