Nobody is saying he should be penalized for being an overachiever or a good kid, thats great. The bottom line is just that he didnt deserve the award of Mr. Basketball

oops, time sure flys when your having fun:D

I'll take another kid just like him in 2008 too!

If you wanted the states best athlete, you should have rooted for antonio owens

But we as a state dont want the best athelete, we want the best player.

And IMO, AJ Slaughter was robbed of that.

Good kid or not, he didnt deserve Mr. Basketball period.

I wouldnt say that the only defense for Allen is that he is a "good kid." That has never been my defense for him.

Being the "best" doesnt always mean you are the most "talented" or most "athletic." A wise coach once said that "hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard."

I am not saying that other great players in this state didnt work hard or didnt deserve the award...... but I am saying that sometimes being the best isnt just about being the most talented.

He deserved the award and that is why he won it.

Considering the award is voted on by the coaches I would say there are alot of HS coaches that know more about B-ball then you do that would disagree with you. But you are entitled to your opinion.

I also know several HS coaches in SEKY that didnt vote for Allen. To say that he won the award because he was the only player from the SE part of the state is ridiculous.

OK Ky high school basketball officially stinks. Can it get even worse? Why no good teams and players any more? I don't get it football keeps getting better. Is that the reason?

My theory. Kentucky basketball players (both boys and girls) no longer learn how to play basketball they learn how to play a system.

They are immersed all but two weeks a year (thank goodness for the dead period) in a system run by their head coach. They are taught fundamentals that their coach feels they need to run his/her system and no more. They literally play hundreds of games between AAU and team camps and are run through repetition after repetition of that one system. It almost seems like the actual games played during the basketball season have become just an afterthought. In many locales in Kentucky this starts in middle school and goes on throughout the players entire HS career.

Indiana on the other hand has very stringent rules on the number of players on a high school team that can play together in the summer and if I'm not mistaken high school coaches are not allowed to coach AAU teams. They are either prohibited from or strongly limited on team camps. Therefore those kids go to camps run by someone other then their head coach and they learn skills that will help them as a whole basketball player, not just as a cog in a particular system.

It is my opinion that coaches in Kentucky are basically hurting kids because of the asinine amounts of time they spend on one and only one system.

All of this has nothing to do with the game, feel free to start another thread about the game.
