Been coaching at Cabell Midland in WV. Still chat scheme, ball w them about every week. Took this Fall off. Both my parents healthy so been traveling w them to watch my nephew (Trimble). Been a lot of fun seeing Dad so excited. He turned 73 last month so I've really enjoyed getting to spend quality time w him on Friday nights.

This game is one of those that the coach in me knows there's a lot of pride ️coming to town. My jr year Russell beat us by 40+. Playoffs was 6-6 we beat them double OT. Last yr Pikeville smoked Paintsville only to see a 70pt swing in playoffs. Raceland has been as consistent as anybody in EKY last 25yrs. They'll come to play Fri! I think Paintsville has way more speed this year but they can't just show up. Have to protect the ball+win special teams. As good as all of these guys are could make an easy argument Messer was as good as any. That kid was so talented! He was a tough one to replace. You guys give me a yell if any of you come Friday. Love to meet up for a few before the game.

I'd have to think that given the Rams regular season record and all the winning seasons over the years that only 2 regional championships and no state final appearances makes them a playoff under-achiever.

I would love to see Raceland pull out the victory here, but I just don't see it happening. I don't believe this team ever met their full potential. I haven't seen enough improvement in the defense over the last three weeks that would lead me to believe that Raceland can contain Paintsville's offense. I suspect the score will be similar to the first time around.

I can easily see where you don't think that Raceland can win this one. Truth is that most don't. I disagree on the score around the same as the first meeting, I absolutely look for a far better showing.

 

Actually, what any of us believe on Raceland winning or not doesn't matter. What matters is that The RAMS (Players, coaches) not "think" they can Win ..... The RAMS Players Have to KNOW That They Can and WILL Win.

After watching the film of the Rams from the past three weeks. I have come to the conclusion that Raceland has two chances to win this game. Slim and none.

I don't see a MIRACLE by the Rams. I'm not even going to make the 3 and a half hour trip to see the game.

RAMS .... YOU are Back to Back Region Champions, Not Paintsville ! Raceland has went through this Paintsville team in both 2013 in the Region Semi Final and 2014 in the Region Championship. What does that say ? This Region Belongs to YOU. Are you an Underdog ....Yes, you are but I have seen many Raceland teams go into a game as "the big underdog" and came out with the Win when there was no one saying that the Rams had a shot ....everyone but the Raceland Players and coaches. Playing with that thing we call "Ram Pride", the Rams Won over Very High Ranked Favorites. I cant remember all of the exact years (Ram, Doc or TCA) might have or can pull up some of those years. Some of the teams were #1 Ranked Paris in 1975, NCC (late 80' or early 90's under Coach Vanderhoof), Pikeville (#1 ranked, defending state champs (80's / Coach Ross), Ashland (on several occasions)through the years were huge favs and Raceland won at Putnam Stadium, Russell just two weeks ago were big favorites and this team won at Russell.

Anyway, you get the idea Rams ... Raceland has certainly done this before and more than once. What it comes down to is are you ready to lay everything on the line for your teammates and coaches to do what most say is impossible ? Only you (Ram players) can answer that. Should each and every member of this Raceland team be able to look in the mirror After this game and "Honestly" say that they played as hard as they possibly could On Each Play and couldn't had given one more ounce of Strength, Desire you have in you .... Then no matter the outcome, you are winners. Very Seldom when each player performed like that did Raceland Lose.

One of the best things about NEKY Football is the passion that the fans and players have. Of all the teams I have watched this year there have been some very inspired teams (JC vs Ashland; Ashland against Russell) but none were more inspired than Raceland was vs Russell.

 

If the Rams want to beat the Tigers then they will need that type of intensity and passion. I will be pulling for the Rams, but if I were a betting man I am not sure I would bet on them. Paintsville should still have a chip on their shoulder about a chance to end the season of a team that ended theirs a year prior.

 

Either way hope we have a great game. Good luck to both. Hope both are injury free.
