Bishop Brossart 39 Pendleton County 12

Featured Replies

Mustangs close out their "rebirth" season at 9-1 with the 39-12 win over Pendleton County at the Sharp Middle School in the first annual "Battle of US27."

Brossart scored a pair of touchdowns before the fans were comfortable in their seats. With 9:31 left in the first quarter, an 80 yard aerial assault by Craig Pffeferman to Chase Keller gave the Mustangs a quick 7-0 lead following the Frank Cetrulo PAT. An ensuing fumble recovery gave the Mustangs good field position at the Pendleton County 35 yard line, the distance that Frank Cetrulo carried the pigskin for a touchdown at the 9:08 mark. The Mustangs led 13-0.

We would tack on another six points at the 2:04 mark in the period when Craig Pfefferman connected with Brett Martin on a 5 yard touchdown completion and the Stangs were in control at 19-0 as the first period ended.

A funny thing happened in the second period while the Mustangs were thinking blow-out, Pendleton County mounted a 56 yard drive, culminated by a 3 yard touchdown run by Griffin Appleman to make it 19-6, and then eight minutes later, scored again at the 3:08 mark on a 50 yard pass play from Austin Stull to Daniel Sander, and suddenly we had a ballgame.

The Mustangs attempted to avenge one of those scores with time running out in the half, but the Cats were saved by the bell and we had a one-score margin at 19-12 at the half.

THe Mustangs got back to playing like us, taking the opening kickoff of the second half and moving the football 59 yards for a touchdown on a 1 yard run by Logan Schuolthies. On our second possession of the second half, it was more of the same, as the Mustangs marched the piggy 56 yards for an encore TD on a 3 yard run by Frank Cetrulo, his second of the night and his eighth of the season, while building on his 1,000 all-purpose yards total, as the Mustangs pushed it back out to a 32-12 bulge.

The Mustangs defense would shut out the Cats in the second half, while the Mustangs scored a senior sendoff touchdown late in the game when Freshman quarterback Tyler MacDonald presented the football to Senior Center Paul Williams who did honors on carrying it into the endzone, wrapping up a 39-12 victory - our ninth of the regular season.

The Mustangs will host their first home playoff game ever, next Friday night when Raceland comes to Alexandia for a 7:30pm bout at Bob Miller Stadium at the Campbell County Middle School.

Tim Cooper, Brossart's answer to BGP's Panda, made the trip down US27 to Sharp Middle School and as usual took some incredible photos, including close-ups of our quarterback Craig Pfefferman and running-back Frank Cetrulo.

Senior Craig Pfefferman threw for two touchdowns, his 16th and 17th of the season.

Senior Frank Cetrulo rushed for two touchdowns, his 9th and 10th of the season, and his 15th and 16th overall. Last week he surpassed the 1,000 Yards Mark in total combined rushing and passing yards.

Great season for the 'stangs. Tough first-round playoff matchup.

Congrats to the Mustangs!! Happy that you guys are doing so well..

Great job Mustangs! Coach is going to have to figure out what to do with PAT's. Now that the playoffs are here every point counts and they can't keep leaving them on the field. Good luck next week!

Congrats on a great season. Look forward to our game next week. To be honest, it's weird traveling in the playoffs but it looks to be a great game.
