Scrimmages

I heard Mercer County was around 12 points better than Trinity when both teams played their starters/regular players.

Their scrimmage ended in a tie at 83 if I am not mistaken.

Ballard was about 15 points better than Warren Central yesterday. Warren Centrals big man Bowman scored around 25. Ballards shooting guard Alvey scored 29 while hitting 7 threes. Jamil Wilson is clearly an elite point guard for Ballard.

How good is Ballard this season? Top 15 in the state? Top 10? Top 5?

Jamil is super quick with the ball in his hands. If he can ever stay healthy he projects as a really good D2 player.

I think he has a D1 ball game. Just lacks size. Wouldn't surprise me if a small d1 took a shot on him.

I'd rank Ballard somewhere around #15.

Moore won both JV and Varsity against Apollo. I don't remember the scores.

Here's what I can remember from the 2015 Larosa's Shootout, and I'll fill in the blanks when I get home:

Gallatin Co./Nicholas Co.- Gallatin's defensive pressure gave Nicholas fits from the tip to the closing horn. #34 from GC had his way against a relatively undersized Nicholas Co. frontcourt. NC's pointy guard, #23, had a nice handle, but lacked help getting the ball up the court. Rough estimate of 20-25 points off turnovers for the Wildcats.

Rowan Co./Doss- Rowan got an impressive performance from #2, and had a guard who also played major JV minutes who kept the offense together for the most part. Doss opened up a big lead in the first and never really looked back. Their length and athleticism on defense was the difference from the outset and was complimented by an offense that feasted on Rowan's zone. Really complete team performance from the Dragon, but to give a couple players their shine, #'s 2, 5, and 13 all impressed at some point, along with #11 who started but didn't play much.

Grant Co./Lexington Catholic- Lex Cath was lead by #10, who was my standout of the afternoon until he was sidelined around the end of the second quarter. This was probably the closest of the three varsity games, or at least up until I left. GC's guards, seniors Rose and Saylor (their pictures were hanging on the wall) made the Braves go with the former providing the playmaking and Saylor providing the scoring. In an up and down game, the bigs, both teams had a 6'5"+ center, were an afterthought. If I had to give an edge there, Lex Cath takes it, maybe only because GC's is new to the program.

In summation, if this is the kind of basketball I have to look forward to for the next 4 months, it can't get started soon enough.

Arguably the best scrimmage at the Fayette Co Hoop o Rama was Lafayette vs Louisville Central. Both teams very well coached. It was uptempo pressing trapping defense the for 3 quarters that the varsity played. The Jv players for both teams came in in the 4rd quarter and a Louisville Central player hit a key shot with 1sec to go to seal the victory. Lafayette with steady game management from pg Jaelin Jenkins. Who ended up with 11pts 5 assts and 5 rebs with 1 TO in 3 qtrs of play. Ross Jenkins anchored them down low with 16pts 11 rebs. T.J Downey making his debut at starter had a solid 19pts and 4 rebs. Harrison Lane off golf had a quiet 4pts. Jajuante Carpenter coming off football season saw limited minutes. Lafayette looks ready to compete. Central had stellar play from all positions guards and down low. Their outside shot was falling. Central a team definetly will make noise in their region. Both teams looked really good.

Dunbar vs Owen Co made a case for the best scrimmage. With Dunbar edging it out at the end. Stellar play from Jr Tavion Hollingsworth with 27pts and Carson Williams with 20+ points and a couple highlight reel dunks. Both really good teams

@ball_coach_4 Lafayette and Central went Varsity for 3 quarters. Jv finished it up with the loss. Tied up til the 4th. Dunbar went Varsity whole way

Looked like Central was up 2 after 3 quarters, but it a was even game never-the-less. Did you see the first game? I was asking about the couple of games I missed. I saw those two. Thanks though.

Henry Clay steam rolled a much depleted Owensboro team. They won by 40+ but as I talked around Owensboro graduated 6 or 7 seniors and their junior "Big" transferred. Henry Clay looks good but I can't really give them a lot from that win. H.C really looked like they were playing against freshmen and a couple sophomores. Iwensboro will be good again in a year or so. Bryan Station looks good DeAndre Dishman is a stud! If u haven't seen him play when you do be in for a treat at some point in the game. Fieaty guards like that of Louisville Central. They can get at you on offense and defense. Lawrence Co. Just not enough per position to match what Bryan Station had. Defenders will be a force to be reckoned with.

Scott beat Batavia(OH) 100-79 this Saturday at SK. Ohmer had 40 overall points within the 2 halfs.

100-72*
