Our passing defense will have to be on point this week. GW exposed our weaknesses almost every other play. Granted that was earlier in the season, however, with Baker getting more reps in the defensive backfield, that has sured up some protection. I believe the only way Ashland will lose this game is if we have break downs in the secondary. I don't know much about TCs defense, but I don't believe they will be able to stop Baker.

Stats from the paper Ashland held JC to 161 yards on 39 snaps. 80 yards were on 2 plays so JCs other 37 plays netted them 81 yards. Ashland ran 60 plays and had 307 yards rushing. That D will always travel.

Numbers can be manipulated in numerous ways to portray any type of point that an individual wants to make. If someone wanted to do the same to Ashland's offensive effort they could do that with Baker's stats as well. 25 carries for 176 yards were his final numbers according to the paper. Take away the 80 yard run to start the 2nd half as well as his runs of 20 and 16 on their final drive, what would his total now be? 60 yards on 22 carries for an average of 2.7 ypc, almost 9 yards below his season average. Not selling Ashland's defensive effort short by any means. They come out with a scheme JC had never seen before, basically playing O'Bryan as a Hybrid S, allowing him to roam unblocked most of the night and playing Baker over the top closed any alley on the edge very quickly. Ashland had a superb defensive effort against JC. The stats are what they are and the game was a dandy.

I look for the Tomcats to win this game by a few scores.

JC let Ashland have 2 unblocked free hitters all night and didn't destroy that look with the pass? Maybe they need to look into the throwy, throwy stuff at practice.

I would the Cats work on some passing for the Tates Creek game. Doing this now will help for the playoffs. Teams are going to come in with 8 or 9 in the box and dare us to throw. JC had 9 and sometimes 10 in the box. I couldn't believe they didn't play a safety, 90% of the night.

Both Ds played lights out. Neither if they played another 4 quarters were going to score much. Just saying Ashlands D travels and should win them this game. If and when Ashland and JC play again look for more scoring as both Offenses will change up some things to try and move the ball.

Game Day! Let's go in to Lexington on a mission and come out with a victory. Take care of the ball and stop the passing game, we'll be fine. Show them what Eastern Ky is about...
