Probably because portable lights are loud, annoying, spew fumes everywhere and not all that useful unless you spring for the really nice ones. Hosting districts isn't supposed to be a money pit for a school. If everyone shares and rents a neutral site there is not problem. But asking my a school to spend money or share with another is like asking politicians to speak nothing but the truth.

 

You know what else is annoying? Having to come back to finish PKs because of darkness...

Again, organizers HAVE TO ASSUME that each game will go the full distance. It is a stretch to say that these events were unpredictable. So now Dixie has to play back-to-back games where they go home and have to come back for PK's. It wasn't a fluke thing, it happened twice and to the same team. I know that the 37th district, all games are either played at Scott or CC. Not sure if its because BBHS and Calvary's fields don't qualify or if it is because they dont have lights. Either way, it works nicely for all teams to sit in a decent venue and not have to worry if you can finish your game.

 

I'm not a "soccer guy", but I agree. There is one factor that is absolutely predictable.

 

It gets dark every evening.

So I wonder, is KHSAA or Villa picking up the tab for the second bus trip to finish a game?

Man I really hate it when I find a dead horse. Especially when there are people still beating it.

NCC plays there districts at Highlands every year. I was NCC year to host but chose not to because of that reason. Last year NCC and highlands went to PKS if that was played at Moscher last year the same situation would have occurred. Playing the districts at Highlands every year isn't a problem, the ADS work it out and it works for everyone. As for money, I believe its split between all teams not sure how the concession works but whatever they do it seems to work out. Also keep in mind you have better crowds when the game is later in the day and there are lights, last night the NCC and Highlands game had a great crowd it looked like every seat was taken and people were standing at the concession stand and on the hill.

 

Not trying to make this a NCC/HHS thread just letting everyone know that it can be worked out. Its not about who's turn it is to host for that year its about doing what is right by the Kids who are playing and giving them every opportunity, in this case they were not because of darkness which should not happen at all this time of year. Everyone knows it gets darker this time of year that is not a secret and it is ashame the way it ended for those 2 teams especially when it was easily prevented.

I agree about more of a crowd. I agree it's all about the kids but because of the coming back the next day and starting at 5:00 I won't be able to watch the end of my seniors last district game. Never had this issue the last 3 years. Well done KHSAA.

I have nothing against the school or it's teams. Like an early post said if your facilities aren't capable of handling it just accept it or make changes so it can. I know what KHSAA says but just because it says you don't need lights doesn't make it right for the girls. We do care about the teams and that's why we are discussing it. To say we don't think the teams are playing great and we don't care is wrong.

That being said, how anyone could possibly think what transpired the last 4 days is acceptable is stunning. If there is a belief OT and PKs were an unlikely scenario, please check the statewide scores in other district finals. An even better indicator, look at the scores the last 4-5 years Dixie and St. Henry have played. Last year they were 12 seconds from having both matches decided by PKs.

Officials? As in referees? How is this possibly their fault in any way?

Call me crazy but I haven't seen anyone attacking Villa personally or the refs. Just saying that it's not a good situation for anyone.

I'm sure if you ask any Ludlow or Villa senior player they would not be complaining if they had to extend the their soccer career for one more day.

& once again I will say this... The Villa players were attacking the Dixie players as well. Don't know who said what first or how it started but... It goes both ways, social media has gotten to this generation badly & it's sad.

I would like to add something overlooked in "4 days to complete 2 games." These are STUDENT athletes. You also realize that sometime in there they still need to get studying and assignments done, right? And do you think the girls are going to leave at 5:30 on their "off day" when their boy's team is getting ready for kickoff? Not happening. I wish I had a photo to show you all of my daughter at Bob Evans tonight with her text book out to complete an assignment by midnight. Although what was really cool about it was seeing the lock screen photo on her phone of her team with the District Champions trophy! She'll cherish that memory for years.

 

And I want to state for WhatsBestForTheGirls that I don't think I could have made a better case for the positivitity you seek than the well deserved, outpouring of support I had for the Villa keeper. I thought that both Dixie games displayed teams that played real hard, and left it all on the field.* And for that, all the teams should be applauded for their exceptional efforts. And nowhere was even a hint of a negative comment towards the participants or the officiating. That's positive.

 

But what WhatsBestForTheGirls may not have experienced was what we did on our side of the student section, known as the visitor's section earlier in the week. Heads up for the next time. Most schools have the student section on one end of the stands or the other, not the center of the field. Because in their youthful exuberance and the excitement of the moment, they are prone to shout something unintentionally hurtful and insensitive, for example, within earshot of a worried mother who has to hear "And stay down!" as the ref calls the trainer to hurry out onto the pitch to provide aid to her daughter on lying on her back after taking a shot to the face. Those "uplifting words of encouragement" and more were enjoyed by the visitor's section. The point is that the home team crowd provides a buffer between the students and the visitors. So do school administrators. Go to any local football game and you'll see what I mean. It is extremely sad the negativity with which guests to your picturesque campus unnecessarily needed to experience. I kind of had my fill of "the Dixie girls this" and "the Dixie girls that" without exposing perhaps a glimpse of the other side of the issue. And you don't want to hear it but true the root cause of the off-field drama was... the facility (nothing to do with lights). But between the games and the way these threads are running, I have gotten way more entertainment than my price of admission. And for that I will say thank you.

 

I'll shut the excavator down and go back to my shovel. I'm done. Over.

 

I do appreciate the intent to remind us all that we should celebrate the athletic achievements of all the young ladies who participated in this week's eventful tournament. And we should.
