I don't mean to be crass here, but just curious how many buses they need? I understand that the further out you go, the longer the route may take to complete...but, does every single bus take that long? I'd think all you need would be for one bus to be back a little earlier than that to make a 5pm start to work, wouldn't it?

 

Kenton Co busses do all levels of school as well and normally cover 3 trips of their drive area.

 

HS releases first take them home. Report to Middle School.

 

Middle School releases second take them home. Report to Elementary School.

 

Elementary School Releases, take them home, and in some cases Elementary has 2 rounds of bus dismissal and a driver will do 2 elementary routes.

I'm not exactly sure why I am seeing all the complaints about Villa hosting and having to take the PK the next night because Villa did not have lights. The way I see it, that was a huge advantage for Dixie. Tuesday night Villa was able to keep Dixie from scoring for 90 minutes with a keeper who has never played goalie before. Villa had the momentum going into the PKs and it is ashame they did not have the chance to finish the game that night. I also believe that 2 of Dixie's players who were injured and taken out of the game the night before was able to take the PKs last night. It really is sad to see all the negative comments about Villa being the "dumbest hosts ever" on twitter from a Dixie player, they won the game. In my option it really shows a lack of class.

Not sure what game you were watching. There was no head ball. I watched the replay video over and there was no head ball. It was all shoulder into the keeper as she had possession of the ball. From watching the replay the Dixie player should have been carded. The video shows she was going for the keeper and not the ball.

 

That's fine. I didn't have a copy of the Zapruda film to replay why the keeper went back, and to the left (kids look it up). Admittedly, my viewpoint was from the "visitor section" (opposite side of the field) looking through the student section crowd. I recall the ball having an upwards trajectory, as if the keeper was grabbing it with her hands raised, and the offensive player heading it at the same time "out of her hands". I didn't go on about it, no whining that we were robbed or how horrible the refs were. No such nonsense. I just mentioned it. So my viewpoint was not the best to make the call. Thank you for the clarification and setting the record straight.

 

So we discussed my opinion, now lets discuss yours. If the Dixie player took a run at the keeper, she would have been carded and possibly thrown out. Did you know that the offense has equal opportunity to go after the ball? Ever hear all the parents yelling, sometimes coaches, for players to follow the ball? The AR I'm sure was close enough to make the call if it was warranted, along with the center. But they didn't. The result, from the judgement of the only one that mattered, the gentlemen in the yellow and black stripped shirt, the center ref, was not so. He deemed it sufficient to have a free kick in Villa's favor. That might be when the student section erupted into a chorus of "You can't do that!" That should be on tape as well.

 

To address another concern of yours, in regards to this:

Then the Villa community should be the most upset that they didn't have the means to finish the game Tuesday night. Because by your inference to Dixie winning because two injured players were available for kicks the following day, now, instead of watching Villa play St. Henry tonight for the district championship and going on to regions, it will be Dixie.

 

I would like to end on a very positive note. You mentioned Villa's keeper, Ms. Abby Hengge, the fact she hadn't played keeper before. She did great. She did what she needed to do in the game and especially in kicks to win for her team. That was heroic on her part. For those who didn't have the privilege to be there, allow me to describe the scene. Besides the shutout the night before (90 minutes), she not only gets 1 stop in kicks (a legit save), but Ms. Hengge had the nerves of steel to be the 5th kicker for Villa. It was a great shot, low and just inside the post. Dixie keeper had zero chance at stopping that shot. At the time this was a make or break kick, to tie it up at 3 scores each (Villa kicked first). That is tremendous. She should be carried around school for a month on everyone's shoulders. Seriously, no joking. She MUST MUST MUST be Villa's player of the tournament.

Why can't the players drive themselves to a game?????

Crazy Kenton County policy. All kids must be bused to all sporting events. They even do this during summer scrimmages.

Buses drop the kids off and they basically can leave as the kids ride home with the parents. Talk about environment friendly, money saving policies. Some of these people never cease to amaze me with the crazy stuff they come up with.

The reason the policy exists is because a couple of years ago some soccer players were seriously injured driving to a game.

Not just Kenton Co. Its actually a state regulation. If the district buys its insurance from one of the state sponsor brokers, they have to abide by this regulation as part of their coverage.

You do realize you are comparing the regulations a public vs a private school has to follow. No kidding the private school players can do what they want, they're private.

 

Public school is regulated to the hilt because as plantmanky said they get sued every time someone gets offended.
