Highlands 2015-16

Featured Replies

Basketball season for 2015/2016 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Highlands? Remember, please be constructive.

Number two team in the ninth til someone shows me different. With the loss of Tubbs by Holmes, it does close the gap some (which wasn't huge) between these two teams.

Definitely have talent back, it will be interesting to see who fills some of the varsity roster and provides depth they'll need to really be a contender for the 9th.

I like Highlands as my top pick in the 9th. I think this is their year.

I like the fact that they will have a ton of experience at guard play. It seems like Coffey and Adler have been playing forever. (RCC9, How can they still be eligible?)

They will also have experience at the 4/5 spot in Leigh...who can create some mismatch problems with her ability to shoot and play on the perimeter.

I got a glimpse of some of the younger players over the summer and they played well. Barth just continues to get better and better.

Looking at their schedule, they do not play an official home game until Jan 5th. Is this because of the gym renovations? If so, I hope it gets done in time for the game on the 7th when the Bearcats come for a visit.

LOL! We've held Coffey and Adler back as long as we could! They are out of eligibility after this year!!! They have a lot of experience at the guard position...that is true.

IMO, Leigh has a break out year. She has improved every year with strength. And I agree, she is a tough matchup for just about any team because she is 6'2", can shoot well from the three, can drive and has improved footwork under the basket. When she plays strong and with confidence, she is a very tough matchup.

As for the younger one, Barth plays way beyond her years. She is the leader in a very strong freshman class. I can see by the end of the year...HHS can have developed the depth they need to compete. I think the underclassman and freshman kids can step in and buy some minutes by year's end.

As for the gym...it is way over schedule. Then to top it off, the new floor from a couple years ago has been destroyed by a hard rain that entered the building via some of the construction that's going on. Gonna be a challenging year with some distractions, but this group has plenty of leadership to hopefully not let that effect them too much.

So where does HHS play their home games until the gym is ready?

They tried to schedule some at Regents Hall at NKU, but apparently ran into some conflicts. They are now working through it and moving games to the other opponents venue and rescheduling games for later in the season. Not a lot of options. Kinda stinks for the seniors, but not much you can do about it.

What about practice ?

What about practice ?

Been tough. They will have the grade schools until their seasons start and they have the armory in Ft Thomas (which is not ideal). Other than that, they haven't come up with many options as of about a week ago. They've checked several private facilities, but the open times are all over the place and not very convenient. When you're a "for profit" gym, the good times get taken up by the groups with money and are "regulars". I get it and it makes sense, but it just makes it that much tougher.

I wondered why Sacred Heart is playing Highlands at Thomas More on Dec 1st. Now I know why.

That should be a good game for both programs to start the year.

Hate to hear that they have to find places to practice especially this year with the team that they have. HHS will beat teams on just talent alone but they need practice and preparation for the good teams they will be playing.

I did get a note that practices are in the middle school and at Regents Hall. They only have 3 scheduled home games in December and those will most likely be played in the MS gym. I think playing SH at Thomas Moore fell thru due to a conflict.

Middle school gym? I'm sure Sacred Heart's gym is open on Dec 1st. Just come on down and put a butt kicking on us again.

It's a petty big MS gym. Picture Notre Dame's gym. And I doubt there will be a butt kicking. Those younger girls from last year have grown up a little...I'm sure! Should be a great game. My daughter just had surgery on her wrist, so we're hopeful she'll be back for that one!! Always a fun game!

I can assure you they will be expecting the defensive pressure this time around. We should be competitive, but I know Highlands has a talented group of veterans.
