6A Notebook Week 5 - Statistically Speaking who can compete?

Featured Replies

Do you know who won state in 2005 after X beat T 48-16 and was leading 48-0 in the 4th during the regular season?

That was then, this is now.... Until they do that again, IT'S A ONE HORSE SHOW!

I believe that was merely offered as proof that it's better not to count your chickens before they hatch.

Male is the number one team; they have definitively earned it. However, it's a bit soon to be awarding them the title.

Actually I am flabbergasted that you even responded to me. You ignored my multiple comments about dropping Trinity for losing 1 game but not dropping SC for the same.

To the point at hand though you are correct to an extent. Male has proven, hands down, that they are and should be the prohibitive favorite to win 6A. If they lose between now and the title game it will be an upset for sure.

My only point is that it is really unwise to count the Rocks out. In fact the game I cited earlier was even more embarrassing than the one against Male this year. The Rocks overcame that and took out the team who whooped them 14-6 in the title game.

Will the Rocks be able to overcome Male next time they meet? Who knows, maybe no one will get within 2 TDs of Male all season. Either way though Bob Beatty and his staff have proven their ability to adapt to horrible losses in the regular season and avenge them in the playoffs against the best in the state. I am hopeful that next time they meet it will not be the butt kicking that we saw last time.

Just curious, that 1100 yards passing for the year last year was that for just the regular season or the entire season? I ask because 73 yards passing per game doesn't exactly aid your argument. Dixie was very good last year because they were great up front and had 2 very dangerous players carrying the ball. You can say it all you want but they were not a capable passing team.

It was the year, but a lot of games only 4 or 5 passes were attempted while other games

They had to throw 12 or so completions were made so when they had to throw they did and were fairly successful.

2014 Trinity, embarrassed by X and lost in OT to Male in regular season. Took care of business in playoffs.

This iteration of Male deserves to be #1 but hasn't shown they can finish the job in playoffs . . . At least not yet. With that in mind I wouldn't be surprised if Trinity gets things straightened out by November, as they've shown they can.

Even so, Male does deserve the accolades as of now.

I agree.

I just wouldn't hand them the 6A title yet.

We can agree to disagree on how well Dixie's passing game worked last year but comparing 15 games to 5 is not exactly apples to apples. If SK is lucky enough to make the championship game this year I will bet the farm Racke will have over 2000 yards passing. While SK's offense may be a little run heavy this year it in know way is as void of passing as Dixie's was last year.
