The Holy Cross/Scott admission thread gave me an idea.......

 

Value Pricing is very common in Pro Sports and has even used in some College Sports. Basically you pay a price based on Day of the Week, the Opposition, Promotions etc.

 

Using $5 as the base for High School Varsity events.....

 

1) Would you be in favor or opposed to any such plan in general?

 

2) (If not) what would be the top dollar you would pay for a high school non-playoff football game?

 

3) Would you be in favor or opposed to a lesser charge for say a non-district game between two schools 200 miles apart?

 

4) Would you be in favor or opposed to a lesser charge for a sport that typically is less attended? (Like Baseball or Softball)

 

5) Would you be in favor or opposed to a school selling "reserved premium seating"? (Like the park benches at Dixie for example).

Coaches and facilities would take a pay cut.

$5 would probably be my top dollar for a ticket. Just like movie theaters they make their money off from concessions. In my case if the wife and three kids all come, its $50 to go to a game. That's not a lot of money in general, but for high school games I believe you would start losing some regular customers.

Why? Remember it can work both ways. Maybe a non-district game that is not supposed to be close against two teams that have no history is $2 night in an attempt to draw more fans. But maybe the big District game is priced at $8. We have seen fans have to pay $10 for a Crosstown Showdown game at a normal facility for basically no reason.

Probably not, JC is the only good district game my team has anymore. The out of district games are where its at.

I hear you on that. Had to pay more for a Reds game on Labor Day when they were 25 games out than I did for a game earlier this year when they were 8 games out. So it can come back to bite a school/team if not done properly.

I would pay 7-10 dollars depending on the team. But again, they would lose my money on concessions. So essentially they would break even if they charged the normal $5 per game and I bought concessions for the family.

 

I guess it depends on where you live and what the average income of your fanbase is. Here in Ashland I think $5 per ticket and $7 for a chick'fil'a meal is fair. But if they raise the ticket price to $7-10 they would probably sell the same number of tickets, but would lose out on concessions, face paint, t-shirts, etc.

I would pay $20 to watch a home game, if they would stop making kids sell things for their sport or club. I have 7 kids and Ive spent ton of money on discount cards and raffles. I bet I've bought $500 worth of crappy chocolate bars. Sometimes it's tough for the average Joe to afford a high school game on Friday nights

Imagine how hard it must be for a family to support a kid or team by paying admission and concessions only for the game to have zero competition and running clock by halftime...

They're not closing them, they're opening them and letting people in free at halftime. They've been doing this at Ashland for as long as I can remember.

So they are screwing themselves, sounds like a them problem to me, but sounds like a backwards Ashland operation.
