No one in the eastern side, but Boyle Co. or Lou Central will handle them in the championship game. Why? Cause Boyle Co has Robbins ( KY Mr. Football ) in my opinion and Lou Central has the athletes/ speed and size to match up well with Belfry.

 

With respect Central hasn't "handled" Belfry the past three times they have met despite that speed and athleticism. In fact with the way Belfry suffocated the Central offense last year and covered their receivers you could argue Belfry even looked like the faster team.

 

Speed kills... but when you are prepared properly things change. Speed can't kill when it is hit before it gets to the line of scrimmage.

 

 

 

As for Boyle... Robbins is a phenomenal player and probably the 3A MVP so far. No single player will beat Belfry by himself. It also doesn't hurt that Belfry has Ray Horton. For as dominant as Robbins is on Offense, Horton is the same of Defense. I think he has around 7 sacks through 3 games already. Right now Boyle is the better team than Belfry IMHO, and if Boyle beats Belfry it will because their entire team plays well.

Honestly, you do bring up a good point in your previous post. With the challenge of the western bracket where teams may well play three consecutive top ten teams just to get to the finals, will they be more battle tested than Belfry? Will they be so beat up Belfry will have the advantage?

 

I will flip this point on you.

 

Belfry has a very tough schedule.. they will also see perhaps the #1 4A team Johnson Central in Week 10. Their playoff path.. though not the path of death like a 2 seed from District 4 will see... will still most likely feature having to defeat at least two Top 10 teams. Being battle tested I don't think is a fear.

 

On the reverse... if you are a finesse team like LexCath for example and have to beat Central, Boyle, and then a Tilghman for example... would there not be an increased risk of injuries, bumps and bruises, and possibly even confidence shaking if specific players spend three weeks getting shut down?

At the beginning of the season, I thought Russell was clearly a notch above Lawrence Co. But, as of right now, I can't confidently pick Russell over the Dawgs. Russell's offense has sputtered so far this year(albeit against good defenses). The progress many believed they had made in the off-season hasn't shown up on the field yet. Starting this Friday, they should have several weeks in a row to find an identity and build some continuity.
