I think they are using Sophomore backup Wyatt Battaille in his place.

Highly unlikely, but anything is possible. I say the Pirates win by at least (2) TD’s.

Let's get this rivalry week started with a pair of very well edited videos:

 

Pikeville certainly has the tools to win this game.

 

But they won't.

 

I see Belfry with a little more fire in their belly than they have showed thus far in this season and especially in this series in a while.

What I want to see from Belfry:

- Linemen pulling and a little Veer action. If Pikeville wants to logjam the middle with bodies on the ground let them and create a numbers mismatch a spot down the line of scrimmage. Austin Dotson has been a MAN this year and has looked super impressive pinning his man. Jordan Scott is very good at pulling.

 

- Turn 'em loose Haywood. Haywood has won close to 400 games and I haven't even coached a Youth Team... far be it from me to dare criticize Haywood.. but the one thing that I philosophically wish he would change is how conservative he tends to play teams the second they line 3 receivers up. This Belfry defense is built to attack. Great speed, monsters on the Line, and Safeties and Corners who aren't exactly built to cover for 5 seconds..but can flat out crush people with hits.

 

Last week Belfry played the First Half very conservatively. NewCath took this opportunity to hurt Belfry 6-7 yards at a time with short passing. The Second Half Haywood became much more aggressive.. brought more pressure..played his DB's more aggressive.. and Belfry basically white washed NewCath.

 

Last year Pikeville built momentum, built confidence, and ate Belfry alive using short runs and short passes to keep them in 3rd and 2 type of scenarios. They basically beat Belfry the way Belfry beats everyone else.. play keep away and dictate the pace. Pugh is so big and physical that he will get his... the key is to crate some negative plays or incomplete passes so Pikeville is in 3rd and Medium or 3rd and Long where power with Pugh is not an option.

 

 

- Use your depth. Part of last year's defeat was simply the fact Pikeville appeared to be the fresher team throughout. A lot of this dealt with the point above, Pikeville dominated T.O.P. and number of play.. the other aspect was Belfry had a couple quick scores and short possessions.

 

Never turn down a big play if it is there... but the Pirates offense needs to be the opposite of what the Defense has to do to Pikeville. Keep yourself in 2nd and Manageable and 3rd and Short. No negative plays especially on the option when someone misses an assignment. The backs and receivers have to get their blocks and hold them. Rotate bodies up front, keep fresh backs, and make sure every play Pikeville is wrestling with you until the whistle.

 

- Play smart. Simply put, don't help Pikeville beat you. Belfry took points off their board with a missed FG and a TD that was called back in last year's gain. They also helped put points on the board for Pikeville with a muffed point. Noone will ever play a flawless game penalty wise..but make sure the penalties come from being active. A Pass Interference, a hold at the point of attack.. I can live with if it is isolated. Bringing back a 30 yard gain for a hold or block in the back 10 yards away from the play... a False Start on 2nd and 8... or an Dead Ball personal Foul to extend a Pikeville drive cannot happen.

Horton is off to a crazy start..by my count I think he has around 8 sacks through the first 3 games.

 

According to his Hudl highlights he had 10 sacks as a Freshman and 17 as a Sophomore. This puts him at 35 career sacks just three games into his Junior season.

 

I think it isn't out entirely of the question that Horton can hit the 50 career sack mark by the end of his Junior year if he remains healthy.

I think fans will see a little different twist in the Panther offense during this game. Pikeville can win this game again, but good basic fundamental, mistake free football will have to be played. All players are healthy, and ready to go. Good luck to both teams, and a injury free game as well.
