September 1, 201511 yr I disagree. A visible presence of administrators and teachers is a huge deterrent to stupidity. Not saying it wouldn't have started but it could have been stopped quickly and those responsible punished. When I see and hear students sections acting like idiots I don't get angry with the students, they are teenagers who by definition are usually judgement challenged. I get angry with the adults who run the school who allow the behavior to happen by fostering an environment in the schools where the students feel it's acceptable. A question: If a student at a public school gets in trouble at a sporting event are there school repercussions? At Trinity kids can be given detention for actions at games and serious enough behavior issues can get a kid suspended. Another question: Are teachers at public schools required to be at any extracurricular activities to supervise the students? To answer the last question (per my 20 years of experience in now two schools), if a teacher is the sponsor of the extracurricular activity, yes. For athletic events, administrators (including the AD) are in charge of managing student behavior. On the other hand, when I've been at athletic events (and I've easily been to 500) if I am in the vicinity of one of my students doing something wrong, I have corrected them. Heck, I once did that at Subway with the kid's mother standing right beside him. :lol2:

That type of training starts at home, and church. Respect thy parents, love thy neighbor. The Golden Rule, treat others as you would like to be treated. I bet that's not the only time those few individuals bullied or belittled some of their piers. I'm glad I didn't have to see that. I would have immediately got involved and have words with any parents about so.
