I got to call this game for Homers Radio and i thought it was a little closer than the final score indicated. Grayson is a very well coached team behind Ed Smart and they did all of the little things it takes to win. They hit on some big plays (70 yd return and 60-65 yard QB TD scamper) to lead 14-7 through most of the game. Grayson lived in Hornet territory in the 2nd half but i came away very impressed with Hancock's defense. The Hornets are very solid up front. Grayson tacked on a FG mid 3rd quarter and never looked back. Hancock just could not move the ball at all in the 2nd half after running very well in the 1st. Coach Eubanks has some good things to build on going forward.

Was hoping to read all about a big Hancock County win. Oh well maybe next week.

Nice report Apollo! What do you think of Grayson's district matchups with Greenwood and Barren County?

I cant claim to know a whole heck of a lot about what Barren or Greenwood have coming back from last season, but i do know that Grayson County lost a lot. Grayson QB Talon Gary was our area MVP last season. He did it all for the Cougars. Judging by what i saw on Friday, they will be running the same system with a new cast of players. Im pretty sure Grayson did not have 1 pass attempt vs Hancock. New QB Dayton Blair, Soph RB Jordan Stallings & FB Dustin Woosley carried the bulk of the load for them on the ground. While they did hit on some big plays, i expect Grayson to be more of a grind it out type of team this year. Their defense improved a lot as the game went on. Hancock had some success running the ball early, but Grayson made some half time adjustments and completely shut Hancock down in the 2nd half. I think Ed Smart will have this team competing week in and week out, but they are not going to wow anyone with their overall talent. Gun to my head, i would take them over Barren County and to lose to Greenwood BUT that is a very early prediction. Just looking at Grayson's schedule, they have several winnable games. I think its possible they could top out at 8-9 wins vs lesser competition. We'll see.

Ed Smart continues to prove he is the most underrated coach in the state. I can't believe Grayson has managed to keep him.
