gchs_uk9
We've spent a good deal of time this summer discussing the favorites in 3A and other potential candidates to make a run toward Bowling Green. But which 3A teams are in line to have more success than they have typically enjoyed? Last year saw Magoffin County win their first district title and Adair County have perhaps their best season in school history. Can anyone else have a similar year? DevilMayCare
West Carter's only had one winning season(2010) since 1998. That should change this year. I could see them winning 7 or 8 games, maybe even 9. I think they'll challenge for the two seed in Russell's district. If they get it, it probably means a second round playoff trip to Pond Creek. UK fball fan
Look for Caldwell Co to surprise some folks. Most people feel that they were a one man show with Sindelar the past 4 years, but, Caldwell has built a strong program that typically dresses 65-70 kids with a lot of good athletes, some able to play D1 ball. As disappointing as they were the last couple of years with Sindelar, they were still one of the Top 3-4 2a teams in the state and capable of winning it all. I think they give PT all they want in D1 and with SWarren moving up, I don't see anyone else in that region that can beat them, so, they have a real opportunity to at least make the semi-finals.i
Ardivan_Rodgers
Waggener is going to surprise some people this year. The only way to go is up. The last two coaching staffs put the program in a huge hole. Waggener has much more talent than people know. They have had eight transfers most of which will make a difference. Two of which are the best players in the state for the class of 2018. I see a winning season coming for the Wildcats.

While they are in a tough district and region I think overall the drop down in classes with be helpful. And as they've shown in basketball, there is talent in the school. Here's hoping they can get back to the glory days of the late 90s/early 00s.

I agreed. I think the gap between West Carter and Russell is wide, but I also believe there should be some space between West Carter and the rest of the district. A home playoff game would be nice, especially since I believe they are still looking for their first postseason win.

They've been very good lately, just not good enough. The move up to 3A puts them in a fairly tough district but not an awful region. I'd put them behind Paducah Tilghman and Elizabethtown at first blush, but as the season progresses they could make a move to the top of the region. Those two things right there tend to make up all kinds of difference.....more than most are ever willing to admit. Got some kids that can or kids that can't? These guys here aren't going anywhere. I kind of look of them like Tennessee back in the late 90's. With Manning (Sindelar) at QB, for whatever reason, they just couldn't win it all. Then a guy by the name of Tee Martin (Dee Cain) takes over the snaps; expected to be good? No doubt. Expected to win the whole thing? Not exactly. Caldwell is going to be dangerous. Sleep on them, and you're going to look up to see 50+ on the score board, then telling yourself "I didn't think they were supposed to do that this year." He should be one of the best dual threat QBs in 3A. They'll go as far as he'll carry them. JR Year Highlights - Braden Brown highlights

They play two of the top five teams in 3A (Central and Corbin) but also play follow bottom feeders (Atherton, Valley, Shawnee, Moore). If they can beat the lower teams and surprise one or two others they will have the first winning season in some time. Hopefully the future is looking good for Waggener. UK fball fan
Union Co is another team that may surprise some people. They've had a good team the last couple of years but couldn't get over the Caldwell and Murray hump, but, from all I've read the last couple of years, they were young, so, maybe they have a Sr dominated team and ready to take that next step. Can anyone tell me more about what they have returning and what they're expecting in Morganfield?

Didn't the Brents kid transfer to Waggener from Manual? Big time player though only a Sophomore. I know he is a major D-1 prospect as a DB..is he going to play Offense any? villecoach
Waggener is in good hands with the E Defensive staff from Manual all there now. Coach Johnson will get players to come play for him. Jairus Brents and Tahj Rice are both at Waggener. Both are sophomores and were starters at Manual before they left. Looking forward to seeing Waggener turn the corner, and hopefully make some noise.
