I certainly don't believe we are alone in the universe, not by far. However, I don't believe that we have been visited by other life.

In answer to your question in post 30 Guru, I think the travel times are prohibitive. Even with our fastest travel times, it would take hundreds of thousands of years to reach even the closest stars, and would increase drastically as the distances do.

I know the theory is faster-than-light-travel, but for all its appeal to the fascination and imagination, we really are not even close. Traveling at near the speed of light is even more unlikely I would expect, given the energy that would be required. I would guess that somehow cheating the speed limit with a wormhole would be more likely, but still very unlikely to happen.

Also, the window for such things. Aliens, to have visited us, would had to have left their planet(s) for ours before we even existed. (Again, assuming the speed of light is the speed limit). The window of opportunity hurts in many other ways, including the idea that species don't last forever. There is no particular reason to think that we will survive long enough as a species to develop technology that would allow interstellar travel. Nor is there any particular reason to think an alien species would be any more effective than us. Yeah the universe is 14 billion years old, but most of it, if not all (interesting question to look up) has been recycled several times over.

Finally, where are they? I don't buy into the government has covered it up theories. Every government for all time? Why come here just to hide?

I hope I am wrong. It would be pretty cool if it happened, just so long as they didn't enslave us all for constant anal probes.

I would like to meet the aliens with a time traveling apparatus so they can tell me what stocks are going to do next week.
