September 4th should tell us a lot about Johnson Central's fortunes. The Eagles take on Lexington Catholic and have a primo chance to make a statement.

 

Also by then Pulaski will have faced Scott County just for a point of noting as well.

That is funny. EKY is the region of the state I probably am the least familiar with, but that is the one pairing that jumped out at me right away. I'm not sure what I based it on, but I would have guessed JC over Belfry as well.

Return 8 starters each way from last year's 2A Semi-Finalist team.

 

Return their entire backfield including the Rowe kid who had a HUGE season.

 

Defensively return their top two defenders including the Wright kid (well over 100 tackles) and the Elswick kid (7 INT's)

 

No other team in 2A returns as much experience or key players. The only place they need help is they lost basically everyone who caught more than 5 passes.. but they still managed to wina 7 on 7 tourney vs. with Pikeville and Pike Central in it.

 

 

Here is the thing though with SV... how good are they really? They won their region in 2A... but it wasn't necessarily a banner year for that group of teams. NewCath obliterated SV in the Semi's and their only win outside of 2A competition worth noting was Fleming County.

 

Should be the best SV team of all-time, but they have beefed up their schedule and should take a couple L's.

Beefing up their schedule will definitely help them and should make them a much tougher out later in the playoffs.

Both teams destroyed us last year and neither is as good as FTH who we play very well against. If this team doesn't start the season off right and I know Raceland is a very very good team but Ashland needs to wax the Rams and make a statement.

I'll just be happy with a W against Raceland. Those kids are always well coached and determined to win no matter who they play. You can't ever count that group out. If not for Bakers long runs in the second half last year, there is no doubt in my mind that the Rams would have embarrassed Ashland on opening night at the new stadium. This is a new year and both teams have some unknowns to us fans, but with it being the first game of the year, anything can happen.

I'll take a 1 point overtime win but to beat them handly could catapult this team toward a GREAT season. Ashland notoriously a slow starting team needs to fix that too.

I'm sure the Raceland/Ashland game will, like always, be a great game. Who wins? Like normal, it will be hard to pick, but I will go with my Rams, they will have one game in already when they meet the Tomcats. I hope that have all the bugs worked out by then.

I'm excited to see the two ol/dl lines go against each other too. Along with the play of the qb's. Those two things will tell us fans a lot about both teams potential this season. It's hard to hide the fact that I think it will be a great season for both teams and their fans.

There will be a lot of changes when the season gets started.
