LRCW
The word Tomcat is tattooed on David “Dirk” Payne’s soul. He loved it and he lived it. But early Saturday morning, that big ‘ol heart full of maroon stopped beating. And a nation of Ashland Tomcats from coast to coast began mourning the loss of the man most of us we always remember as Mr. Tomcat. Nobody loved them more. Nobody cheered for them more. Nobody hurt for them more. Ever. MARK MAYNARD: Dirk Payne?s love of Tomcats was everlasting - The Independent Online: News

JDEaston
Sad day for Tomcat Nation. What Dirk has done for the program and fans over the years would be unimaginable to most that didn't know him. Not only a super fan he is the definition of a booster. A couple years ago I went to Ashland sporting goods looking for a cheerleader outfit for my little girl, she wasn't even two years old yet. I couldn't find a size small enough for her so I bought her some pompom's and a T-shirt instead. When I was putting her in her car seat he comes out and hands me the smallest size they had and told me "she'll grow into it before you know it." Just goes to show how much he loved the kids, even future tomcats.

We all need a guy like that working hard for our kids and schools. Sounds like one in a million.
