I like Rothwell. His heart is in the right place and he did very well with my boys team. All of the parents were very positive about him. EVERY SINGLE ONE, and you never get a positive consensus on a coach. Don't know your beef, but I don't believe that you know him on a personal level. Going from CUP to KHA is hardly club jumping.

No beef! Huge difference coaching high school vs. club. For how big Walnut with boys head count he can't or will never get out of the Region. Walnut is very lucky to play the CCH talent and I expect CCH has a clean sheet.

They beat Moeller didn't they? They have one of the best juniors in the region, as in Region II of US soccer. It will be a good game.

CCH has an impressive slate of Ohio teams scheduled for 2015. Maher started ranking Ohio teams last year. In the SE District across all three divisions there are 138 schools (compare to 150 for all of KY ). CCH Ohio opponents and their respective ending Maher Rank in SE Ohio from last year: Elder (15/138); Walnut Hills (9/138); Seven Hills (8/138); McNick (31/138); and Summit Country Day (11/138). That's some great competition from just over the river that should position CCH to play against top teams in KY.

Sir has had his research staff working overtime this pre season. With the stats above and the individual research in the team posts.....well done.......

The above comment is why in the past I have mentioned that just considering goals and assists in ranking players and deciding POYs isn't fairly done. It is not the players fault who teams schedule I realize, and with respect to all teams, a good loss to a quality opponent can mean more than a 10-0 win by halftime to a not so quality team that is meant to pad stats......

JR always schedules top teams he just isn't traveling far to get it done and why should he with the costs involved. Just curious in Ohio dbl yellow does not receive a subsequent two game suspension but Kentucky it does and the Ohio guys are quick with the cheese so do you coach differently in OH?

So is Covington the favorite again this year to win the region?

I am not sure how they can't be the favorite again this year, on paper, I think it is a no-brainer.

That being said, I think the talent has been there the past few years but they have not been able to win the Region.

Are they doing anything differently this year to change this trend?

Last year? Yes, I think they were the favorite and most talented team in the 9th region in my opinion but they fell short in the final for a couple of reasons. The year before (2013)? Just an average team really with no senior standouts and certainly not a favorite that year (12-7-3 record). 2012.............overall record of 14-7-2........again, it was a nice team but no overwhelming favorite. The two best teams they've had in the past five years were the 2011 squad and last year and were the only two that I'd say would have been considered favorites at the end of the year.

I think the real question is will they win the district. Rumor is there are 5 teams to compete with. That is the most in well... ever. Lol

I see that they have Holmes on their regular season schedule, do not see any of the other 3 from the District listed.

Do you wish to expand on your "couple of reasons" why they fell short of winning the Regional title?

And I agree with your assessment of the 2013 team.

Another talented team that fell short of winning the Regional title was the 2010 team.

No Regional title since 2009??? I think this is the year they move on to the State tournament.

Looks like another good class for the Colonels coming in this year with 24 freshmen getting their first taste of high school tryouts this week. That has been about their average the last few years. Curious what kind of frosh numbers other schools are seeing.
