Don't know if this is a true statement... maybe someone can confirm.

 

I was told that CCH does not cut any freshman that tryout for soccer.

 

If this is true, they could have enough to field to squads for the freshman regional tourney.

I've heard a while back they had 24-26 incoming freshman sign up to play soccer. Certainly a big number for one team but no where near enough for two teams. And I'm sure there are a few that signed up during some freshman orientation, for different reasons may never actually come out.

You sure of this? I was told as recently as last year the JV team had 9-10 juniors on the JV roster and were only called up to varsity come tournament time. Sounds like there are very few players being cut.

You are correct, there were very few cuts made last year but there were some. Very large JV and frosh squads last year but that is a coaching staff decision and yes, there were a ton of juniors on the JV. Probably the same this year. Frosh have never been cut but I did hear rumblings that may change with the big class coming in this fall. The last few years they've had 20-25 on the frosh team.

 

In Ohio, some schools are going to an A & B team for JV and just eliminating the frosh team, not a bad idea.

Cuts were made last year. Kind of goes back to my first point.....for the first time all of the players in the program have been viewed by the coach for the entire time. These are now his players and not inherited players so he will know them and be able to make decisions on what he has seen in the past. He also met with them after each year and told them what he expects them to do to improve....sometimes this means improve or lose a spot on the team.......

 

I honestly think that if a frosh comes in and is heads and tails above JV or Varsity players, and is mature enough in body and mind to play at that level, that is where they will fall......this coach and his staff are the right people to make those decisions.

The reason many OH schools have gone to a JV A and B team is because there are very few freshman teams there. Having two JV teams gives the schools more scheduling options. In KY there are still plenty of freshman teams. It's debatable what is the best way to go for CCH. Most of the OH JV B teams will not give the CCH freshman team much competition. If KY schools started doing this I'm sure the same would be true. And I'm not sure but I suspect 7th and 8th graders (which at many schools help make out the freshman team) are not eligible to play JV, if the team has juniors playing.

I guess that incoming freshman who will be playing for a national championship in a couple weeks will be on JV. Cov Cath is going to look like St. X with 24 players on the roster and quality throughout. I think the Cov.Cath. fans are guardedly optimistic:eek:

 

IMO, just by mentioning this is not putting this kid in a very good situation. If his skill level is above other players, they are not going to appreciate it because he's a freshman and he hasn't "earned" his playing time. Secondly, they'll probably point out every mistake making his life difficult. Let things play out instead of placing a preconceived notion of his ability. I hope Covcath has a succesful season.

I'm sure he will be just fine. Jeremy will use him when and where he needs him.

In the past yes, but since the current coach has taken over, that changed. The current senior class was his first class as frosh. 8 frosh played, and started JV and it would have been 9 but one made a decision during tryouts that held him down until frosh was over.

 

If you think about it, this senior class is the coach's first full 4 year class. He knows the story behind every player .......

CCH has an impressive slate of Ohio teams scheduled for 2015. Maher started ranking Ohio teams last year. In the SE District across all three divisions there are 138 schools (compare to 150 for all of KY ). CCH Ohio opponents and their respective ending Maher Rank in SE Ohio from last year: Elder (15/138); Walnut Hills (9/138); Seven Hills (8/138); McNick (31/138); and Summit Country Day (11/138). That's some great competition from just over the river that should position CCH to play against top teams in KY.

Walnut Hills has a great coach as well in Eric Rothwell. He will be coaching KHA u16 Red next season.
