June 27, 201511 yr Gay marriage is all about equality. Men and women are equal. Two men can get married and raise children, two women can get married and raise children and we will all hold hands and everything is fair. So, two men can get married and raise children without a woman being involved and this is perfectly normal and okay. This implies that women bring nothing to the table that a man cannot bring, right? [and the same questions/situation could be posed with women]. So, by the gay marriage logic, feminists would agree that woman bring nothing to the table. So a feminist would have absolutely no problem with me opening a business, "InItToWinIt, Inc." that sells tampons, birth control, and abortion services. And the best part about my business? I will never hire a women, nor ask for their input on any of the business decisions I make. Ever. And, since women bring nothing to the table, then there is nothing wrong with keeping women out my business, right? Only men will be in the business. In the accounting, marketing, production, every single step of the way I will have men doing the work, because women bring nothing to the table that a man cannot.
June 27, 201511 yr Author Now, I understand this specific situation is flawed. But one of the main reasons I am even on this site is to learn. I was raised in a white collar, conservative bubble. I want to try to see different perspectives and learn more about the beliefs of others. So, before someone (not many on this site would) just calls me an idiot and never looks at this thread again, I ask that you please explain where in my logic I was wrong.
June 27, 201511 yr Author I...uh...well...huh? In short.... If two men can get married, that means women bring nothing (that a man cannot bring) to a marriage. So, if I start a business, I can hire all men and no women. Supporters of gay marriage should not be upset about this, since women bring nothing to the table, by the logic of gay marriage.

Supporters of gay marriage should not be upset about this, since women bring nothing to the table, by the logic of gay marriage. I'm getting lost at how women "bring nothing to the table." I'm not sure how many women would agree their only worth in life comes from their traditional role in a marriage. But, I'll work backwards. If you're only hiring men because everyone is equal (and thus women "bring nothing to the table") then you're still discriminating against women, thus belying the notion that everyone is equal. Would it make any sense if I hired only white people because slavery has ended and everyone is equal thus I can exclude black people from my industry?
June 27, 201511 yr Author I'm getting lost at how women "bring nothing to the table." Because if two men can get married, that means women have nothing to contribute to a marriage. But, I'll work backwards. Would it make any sense if I hired only white people because slavery has ended and everyone is equal thus I can exclude black people from my industry? Just because in my hypothetical business I don't hire women it does not make them unequal. The same situation could be applied with a female-only business. Since two men [women] can get married and don't need a [man's] women's perspectives, then 100 men [women] can run a business without and women's [men's] perspectives. See how flawed it is?
June 27, 201511 yr Because if two men can get married, that means women have nothing to contribute to a marriage. And because two women can get married men bring nothing to marriage? Then no one brings anything to marriage? I'm just confused. No :lol2: If you're deliberately not hiring women then you're discriminating against them. I don't see how that's not the case because two gay men can now marry. Whether or not gay marriage is legal I imagine women would prefer to be hired on the basis of their education, experience, skills, etc. I don't think many women are being hired right now because of their gender or what they can bring to a marriage (child birth?).
June 27, 201511 yr Heterosexuals are attracted to those of the opposite sex. Homosexuals are attracted to those of the same sex. However, one person marries another because of what that person brings to the marriage. I doubt that @mcpapa looked at mcmama and simply said "there's a woman, that one will do as well as the next."
June 27, 201511 yr I don't understand a lot about your premise. If a man loves a man rather than another woman, it doesn't mean women bring nothing to the table. I hire both men and women today, based on how well I think they could do the job. I work in an office and most of my qualified applicants are female, but I don't go in thinking about the gender I'll be hiring. I don't know... Maybe my head just isn't with it today. But I'm having a really hard time following this line of logic. I don't know how one thing has any influence over the other. Everyone can get married so let's discriminate against one gender or the other? Very confused. Not argumentative, just confused.
June 27, 201511 yr Author Okay, fine. A marriage is only about the people in it. So what if I want to marry my older brother? Or even better, marry both of my brothers? We all love each other. There has to be a line somewhere.

So, before someone (not many on this site would) just calls me an idiot and never looks at this thread again, I ask that you please explain where in my logic I was wrong. Just as you have stated that you'd like to learn, see different perspectives, and learn more about the beliefs of others, I must admit that when I see these type of hypothetical question coming from you, I can't help but ponder how does your mind work, and where on earth do these thoughts come from? You might notice that some seem puzzled by what you are asking, and understandably so. I trust most out here to be intelligent enough to comprehend most topics, so what appears to be them being slow at understanding just what you're getting at really isn't them being slow at all, but more so that (no disrespect intended) your thoughts appear to be riddled with loopy logic void of any, or much sense. Even if they slightly do, It's sorta hard to form any responses that migrate naturally from the mind to the fingers. It's intriguing somehow in ways, but not so much from the questions you pose, but more so how they come across as so whacky, and your audience I have to believe spends a bit of time scratching their heads and wondering where in the world do these very unusual thoughts come from. Perhaps this is all for another thread entitled "How does InItToWinIt's mind work?", but I just thought that I'd use your thread here as an opportunity for you to help enlighten us. You most certainly don't need to feel obligated to answer this question, and at the end of the day if I never get a better understanding, feel confident that I won't lose any sleep. I could see the tendency for some to think it might be drug related, but judging by your typical behavior that doesn't really add up. Is there something within your makeup or conditioning that spawned this type of "way out in left field" hypothetical questionings or thinking? In your defense they most certainly can be classified as original thoughts, so in that I've always been intrigued by originality. I'm all for people being themselves and letting their freak flags fly, so in no way would I want to try to cramp your style. Not specifically on this thread's topic, but your original form of logical thinking in general, I think that many out here would be all ears if you had any comprehendible way to describe how it all came to be, and how your mind works. Thanks in advance for your consideration in making an attempt to help us get a better understanding of where you're coming from in general, and again don't at all feel obligate to respond. The question I am posing could seriously fall into the category of being none of my business.

The question I am posing could seriously fall into the category of being none of my business. I have a couple of thoughts, as I am always in for a little self-reflection/dissection of my mind. It fascinates me. I've taken a Strengths Finder Personality test (a professional one I had to pay for, not some crap on a free website), and one of my top 5 strengths was "relator," meaning that in socializing with others I establish a connection best by relating to them. My theory is that the reason I like hypothetical questions/situations is that that is how I relate best to people - putting myself in their shoes. Some other reasons my posts (although this is the only one I know of off memory) can come off confusing to people is that A)I think I am a better communicator face to face (like most people) and B) I am significantly younger than most who post in CI, Politics, and Religion and I am still in undergrad. Most of the men and women on BGP are working and send dozens of emails a day, so you men and women have much more experience than me practicing effective communication through a keyboard. Regarding this thread, I was trying to convert a conversation I had with someone into a paragraph. I just got back from vacation, so I am getting caught up with my work, workout schedule, and social schedule (three very important aspects of a college athlete's life ) so I think I have been a bit stressed and felt rushed, so I did not take the time I normally do to thoroughly post and proofread post #1 . That would be the best answer I think I can give you, hope it makes sense.

I guess that I still don't quite understand how your mind develops such thoughts, but possibly if someone asked me the same question, I would probably not have an easy time with a solid answer, for thoughts, they just happen.
