Shipping advice

I've got something that I have to send to California. It's not very big, size-wise...but, it is very valuable (several thousand dollars). I'm not necessarily worried about how long it will take, so having it overnighted or next day delivery doesn't really matter to me. As long as it gets there, in one piece, in a week or so, I'd be fine.

I know the post office has registered mail, where basically each person that touches the package has to sign off for it. It's a great way to track it, and it would take about a week or so to get there. I'm not sure though if it contains insurance if the package is damaged/lost.

And then of course, you have UPS and FedEx. Not sure what their policies are, from the shipper's standpoint.

I know there's a few on here who sell on eBay and the likes. Any recommendations? (I already know what one member is going to say.)

Through UPS you can insure it for a certain dollar amount, and then make it Signature Required, meaning someone will have to sign for it upon delivery.

In terms of expedited delivery, I know you say that's not important, but in terms of damage, the less time it is in the hands of UPS or FedEx, the better.

As Duece said, overnighting it is probably a good idea, as it will visit less sort facilities, which is where damage usually occurs. Not sure of your shipping location but ups's main hub is in Louisville, so it would likely fly straight from there to California. If you go with FedEx it will be trucked to Memphis before being flown to California. If your in northern Kentucky DHL may be your best bet since they have a bub there, I've never shipped through them though.

Whichever you choose the package is going to be thrown around a bit, so I would obviously insureit and would recommend having it packaged by the shipping service you choose.

What type of item is it?

As for the insurance, you should be able to declare a value with whoever you ship with that insures it up that point. You pay more for declaring a value, but you have coverage.

I can confirm this, Fed Ex has 2 planes every night that used to come in that are outbound for Memphis.

(We made them park on the other side of the airport :sssh:)

side note @plantmanky = former DHL guy.

Lol and thats fair. Acutally we never had any major issues with Fedex when I worked at DHL. It was UPS that ran their trucks into DHL planes on the ramp...................twice.........................grrrrrr....................................

Obviously, everyone knows UPS drivers are color blind

I ship and receive packages several times a week. Some of it quite valuable. Fed Ex, no question.

Its more of knowing that their trucks can actually be driven underneath the wing of the plane or not.
