Louisville FOP sends letter warning anyone who tries to sensationalize tragedy

Featured Replies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —The River City Fraternal Order of Police sent an open letter warning anyone who might try to sensationalize tragedy.

In it, the president of the FOP said the organization is finished with “sensationalists, liars and race-baiters.” They said they will no longer stand on the sidelines and let anyone assault or demonize police, and will call out anyone who tries to do so.

Mayor Greg Fischer and Police Chief Steve Conrad have already spoken out against the letter.

Can a mod fix the typo in the title? Thanks.

I don't get this.

What is the goal of the FOP here?

To me, it looks like the guy went rogue on his own and drafted this letter. I'd bet a lot of the members of the FOP that he "signed for," do not agree.

If you're the union president, you always want to be seen as "standing up for your guys", even if the method you choose isn't necessarily prudent. I'm also sure there are plenty of members who disagree.

He could have issued a statement supporting law enforcement officers that would've come off a lot better than this. He seems like a petulant child.

"All shootings are tragic and we take them all seriously, et cetera, et cetera... We believe the officer did everything he could to handle the situation as best he could, et cetera et cetera..."

It's not that hard.

He'd have had to google cetera.

While he could have stated it better I agree with his sentiments.

Kind of what I was thinking. His tone is the type where he is daring (begging) someone to test them. Not the smartest tactic. Now, to send out a letter saying, "Enough of this crap" I can see doing.

Absolutely. I understand his frustration.

Everyone gets frustrated. You've got to hold it together better than that.

I don't disagree with his sentiments at all.

This was a terrible way to voice his frustrations, one that will not be seen well throughout the city.

And one of the "sensationalists" has now called for his resignation while saying he now feels in fear for his safety and that he's worried he'll be "pulled over".
