June 10, 201511 yr Are any of the local high schoolers potentially getting drafted this year? If so, who might they be and what high school do they attend. CAL's Riley Thompson (RHP committed to Louisville) will probably be picked today even with getting Tommy John surgery done yesterday. Could of/should of been gone yesterday without the injury. Daniel Little from Lexington Catholic (SS also committed to Louisville) will probably get picked in the later rounds today.

June 11, 201511 yr Round 6, #175 , Reds select RHP Jimmy Herget, University of South Florida The Friday night starter for the University of South Florida as a junior, Herget has a track record of success as a three-year member of the rotation. He could potentially stay in that role or get to the big leagues in a hurry coming out of the bullpen. Herget really knows how to pitch, with a four-pitch mix he uses extremely well. He'll pitch with a fastball a tick above-average in the future with heavy sink, throwing it now in the 89-94 mph range. He adds and subtracts from it at will. Herget has two usable breaking balls, a solid average slider and an average curveball, as well as an average changeup, and he commands all four of them well. Herget does all of this from a low three-quarter arm slot, with a kind of Steve Cishek-like delivery. With a bulldog mentality, Herget could rush to the big leagues in a relief role, though his feel for pitching does give him the chance to be a back-end starter. I'm sure @swamprat can give us more insight on him. The Bulls' ace the last 3 seasons. His ERA stayed below 2 until this season where had a couple of bad outings which drove it up into the 2's. One of those, was in the last series of the season against UCF, where he started after a 2 hour rain delay. He had gotten it down to 2.04 before that game, but got knocked out in the first inning. That's something that had never happened to him. He has that 3/4 delivery, which looks odd, kind of like he's slinging the ball. However, I've seen him throw 96 when he's needed to. His curve is "fall off the plate" good. I sit right behind the plate and some of his off speed stuff has left me in awe. I never met Jimmy, other than to shake hands. His father, who I to talked now and then, said the scouts had him on a pitch count early in the season. I'm not sure if that was the case latter on. I do know that every game he pitched, there were a line of scouts behind home plate with radar guns and notepads watching him. The kid is a heck of a competitor. I remember at the Big East Tournament, his freshman year, Assistant Bill McGillis telling me that when Jeff Thompson (UofL) won the Big East Pitcher of the Year, Herget was mad as a wet hen because he wanted that as well as the Rookie of the Year award, he'd already won. Jimmy did have lower ERA. I'm tickled pink, that he's a Red. I thought for sure the Twins wanted him. I look forward to seeing him with Daytona when they come visit the Threshers. Hopefully later this summer.
