May 30, 201511 yr Author Nice to see Funkhouser pitch well against a solid hitting squad. Worked himself out of a couple of jams and had some balls hit very hard right at defenders. Hopefully he has a chance to build on this success in a next outing. Great to see the bottom of the UofL order come up big. Really happy for Hairston who had a great night at the plate and in the field. White hit the ball hard in at least 1 of the ABs I saw. Sounds like it will be 2 tough LHPs today at 4:00. A win would put the Cards in a great position. A loss would be tough, but manageable. Let's go get it done. L1C4 BTW - thoughts on the Adidas gear? They do some pretty outlandish stuff for UofL and the L on the side / rear thigh of the pants was a little much for me. That said, they can wear White Sox short pants if they keep winning!
May 31, 201511 yr Great atmosphere today at JPat. Felt like summer, as I stated Michigan is a very good team and had a hammer on the hill. At 2-0, now Cards in driver seat. MSU had a nice season, but they were clearly outclassed in this regional.OVC is a bad baseball conference, and it showed. I was at both games, they were just ok.
May 31, 201511 yr Author Great battling win for the Cards yesterday. The 2 LHPs were locked in a battle and HRs were the only difference. Huge 2R shot by RosenBomb in the 7th. Surprised McDonnell didn't bring a fresh Burdi in earlier in the 8th when trouble was brewing. Commentators gave the Michigan RF more grief than I would have for catching Hairston's ball that allowed the winning run to score. If you didn't see it, top 9, tied 3-3 w/ runner on 3B and 1 out (got there by getting a huge jump and stealing 3B when UM P didn't give him a good 2nd look). Hairston lined a fly ball into foul territory of RF. RF comes on a dead run and makes a very nice diving catch for the 2nd out. Runner tags & scores easily to put UofL up 4-3. Given that the RF is on a dead run, I can't imagine he has the ability to KNOW whether the ball is fair or foul. If he lets it drop and it is fair, he looks like an idiot. If he lets it drop and Hairston gets a hit, he looks like an idiot. I put that on the UM bench and maybe 1B. If they KNOW it is foul and don't want him to catch it, they have to be screaming at him to let it drop. That's a lot to ask on a bang bang play from college kids. If it was a high pop and he could settle under it, know he is in foul territory and think it through, it is a different situation. Kid simply went and got the ball like he has his entire life. I am OK with that play from him every time. I haven't seen Bradley yet, but would expect to see UM and UofL back at it at 4:00 PM today at JPat. Of course, that depends on who their #3 pitchers are. Would expect UofL to start Josh Rogers (another LHP) regardless. If he can throw strikes, he could be effective against UM's LH batters. Should be fun.
