What to do in Kansas City?

Featured Replies

Flying there Monday for a conference. Never been there before, looking for some things to do in the evening. Will be taking in a Royals game on Wednesday...they are playing the Reds...how about that? Figure I have to hit a famous bbq joint as well. What else?

Really enjoyed Kaufman Stadium. Not in a great location being in a giant parking lot, but the stadium itself I had a really good time in.

There's a bar there called The Levee. Pretty close to a large entertainment/shopping district called Country Club Plaza. Can't imagine it's going to be popping much on a Monday night, but when I was there they had a live music venue on the first floor with a band doing a lot of Motown and other soul covers and up on the second floor is essentially a sports bar. Great spot.

Go to any barbecue spot you want. I like several. Went to a place called Jack Stack Barbecue right there in Country Club Plaza that was great. I'm also a big fan of Oklahoma Joe's, Arthur Bryant's, and Gates.

Operating under a different name now, I believe.

Hereford House in KC. One of the best I've ever had.

I once overheard this piano player talking about getting him a crazy little woman there. Somewhere around 12th and Vine.

Or is it kind of like Texarkana, where you get the worst parts of both Arkansas and Texas?

The country club plaza is loaded with great restaurants.

Bristol's, Fedora, Jack's.

Fred P Ott's is a great pub. They're burgers and dogs are great.

You can uber or taxi there, then the whole thing is walkable.

The original Houlihan's Old Place was opened there. Not sure if it's still there or not.
