Does the fact that the men were gay make a difference? Shouldn't he be kicked off the team if he beat up any two men (or women)?

The sole reason he did it was because they were gay so I guess it should be in story. Also possibly a hate crime.

Don't disagree I guess. I have never been a big fan of the whole hate crime thing. If you commit a crime, you commit a crime. If you hate your victim it should not make a difference IMO.
