May 9, 201511 yr My son is 22 and has never been a boxing fan. He did get caught up in the hype for this fight. While he did find this particular match to be a letdown he did find himself watching boxing tapes today. I showed him Round 1 of Hearns/Hagler. Crazy single round. Hearns may have won the first round but Hagler was a tank in all three rounds. That would have been worth $100.
May 10, 201511 yr Saw the highlights of the Alvarez-Franklin fight. They need to promote the heck out of this Alvarez kid, he has fist of fury. It looked a lot more enjoyable to watch than the Manny-Floyd fight.
May 12, 201511 yr How in the world could it be dead? Each fighter takes home at least 100M and PPV almost shut down, had to delay the fight 30 minutes, because of overload. Does not sound like it is near dead. Right, and Premiere Boxing Champions series signed 40 appearances on NBC & CBS programming for the next 2 years. Broner made 1.5 million for an NBC Fight, and 3 of 4 fighters in the card topped over $1.25 million, the lowest was $600,000. Top UFC guys make $400,000. A mid card fighter on a UFC PPV makes $50,000, early card fighters make less than $10,000. Most guys make $10,000-$50,000 on Friday Night Fights on ESPN. A wise man once told me, follow the money. Boxing is far from dead, and the new national tv deal indicates it's making a resurgence. As far as excitement is concerned, I like exciting fights from both. I've seen just as many "boring" UFC matches with guys laying on each other trying to get wrist & leg control. Both have great, average, & their fair share of dud fights, but boxing is far from dead.
May 12, 201511 yr I watched the fight on HBO over the weekend. That was an absolute slugfest. If every match was like that, boxing would be back.
