Laptop repair in NKY?

I wish I remembered what he looked like. It was out at Best Buy, I'd like to go back and have a few words with him.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for the cost to upgrade that laptop and have someone who knows what they're doing to put it in you're going to pay about as much as it would cost you to buy a new one.

Not worth it. I am honest with my customers. Etichally, I could/would not do that upgrade for you. I'd make you pay me up front, I'd go buy you a new laptop, transfer your data and give them both back to you.

If I were you, I'd go back to where you bought it, throw a giant fit, and tell them to give half what you paid for it in a store credit and buy a laptop that doesn't suck. Pentium processors and the general public cryptonite. People buy them in droves b/c they're cheap. A year later their PC's won't do anything and they have no idea why. I honestly wish Intel would quit making them.

Now I see that there is a very similar model to mine that has what I want, Toshiba Satellite L75-B7240, and not much more than what I paid for this one. But, at this point, I am willing to spend maybe $300 I guess to get this done. Over that I guess I can sell this one and use that money to buy the Toshiba Satellite L75-B7240.

I didn't catch that you were wanting to upgrade the processor. I'm with the others in saying it's not worth it. I'd say just bite the bullet and buy one with the processor you want. It never hurts to have a backup laptop around anyway.

Thanks! I may just take it in and see how much I can get for it, then use that money towards buying an i5 or i7.

Now, how do I wipe this thing clean? I have everything in a external hard drive.

$300 bucks won't even buy the processor. Then you're paying someone to put it in...

SG, again, not trying to bust your bubble, but on the open market that this might fetch you $50. Best Buy MAY do something more, but I highly doubt it.

I think he would get more than $50....but not enough more to be worth selling. I do know BBY offers trade in value for used electronics. You can get an estimate on how much you might get on their website, but I doubt that you'd get more than $100 or so. Again, I'd just keep the laptop....it never hurts to have a backup/second laptop, and selling/trading it in won't get you even halfway towards the price of a new laptop. Buy what you really need/want and use the second to backup important software/documents/etc.

You will probably get the most on eBay honestly, but I still wouldn't expect much more than $75-125.

I could probably get $100 for it reselling it all fixed up. No chance I'd pay more than 25 bucks for it. I thought I was being generous with the 50. But maybe. either way the moral of the story is not worth it to upgrade.

Thanks again! I found out that Toshiba has a customized model and I can get what I originally wanted, they felt my pain and are offering me a few discounts.

Now, how much of a difference is there between the i5 and i7? I am getting a 1TB (5400rpm, Serial ATA), with 8GB DDR3L 1600MHz (4GB + 4GB)

It really depends on what you'll be doing. Gaming or something like that, then definitely get the i7.

But if money is a factor stick with the i5. Do not get an i3. If you can get the i7 go with it, but I wouldn't get yourself in trouble over it.
