Ashland Job Search

Featured Replies

Out of 15 openings around the state thus far, only three have been filled. I'm not so sure why everyone is so concerned that the Ashland job hasn't been filled yet. Given the state of the program I seriously doubt that they are gonna hire the first guy that raises his hand.

With all due respect JD, I think the hands that went up weren't what Ashland was hoping for. And that will likely remain the case.

That's quite possible, but I do believe they are taking their time with the search to find the best person possible. The Mason County job opening up doesnt help any, but I'm confident they will find a qualified coach.

While the Ashland job isn't what it once was, its still the premier job in the region, in my bias opinion hah. Personally I'm ok with them taking their time with this, whether its because their top choice didn't apply or they are sorting out multiple candidates.

The longer this plays out, I think Jeremy Howell will be the choice.

How long has he been on the staff? What makes him the frontrunner? If it's just because a coach hasn't been named, is that fair to him to be the last option?

I'm not connecting the dots. If he applies and gets the job, regardless of what "option" he was, how is that unfair to him? Heck if he feels hosed over it, don't accept it.

I understand that the person that graduates last in medical school is still called doctor. I know Jeremy, he's a great guy; I just want whoever gets the job, knowing that they were "settled" on, (and I mean that with no disrespect) to still give it all they have and do the best that they possibly can. If Jeremy is the one to fill the position, I wish him nothing but the best. I just don't know all of his qualifications.

I think Howell will relate to the kids very well. Having played at Ashland, he should be motivated to proving himself there. He has no high school head coaching experience to my knowledge which is a drawback. Although he may not be the slam dunk hire on paper, he definitely is intriguing. He sorta strikes me as a guy that just might possess some intangibles with the way he carries himself on the sideline.

I get that, but in the end, someone has to coach them. It may turn out to be a blessing for both.

If you know Jeremy, then you know he will give it his all. I've known Jeremy for years, haven't seen him for 6-8 months, but he is someone that won't ever have a problem getting the kids to come out and play. On top of that, the kid (I can call him that cause he's slightly younger than I hah) knows his basketball. Him and Adam Howard are a lot alike in relation to their knowledge of the game, Adam has just had better opportunities and has pursued coaching more than Jeremy up until this point. It may be a bit of a gamble in some people's eyes, but I think it could turn out to be a home run at the same time.
