March 28, 201511 yr Hello all, I've tried searching the KHSAA policies/regs with little luck and figured there are experts on here that could help. Can 8th graders at a private middle school condition or practice with a public high school?
March 28, 201511 yr I would think that they could as long as the public high school is the school that they could attend if they choose to go to a public school. This is just my opinion.

The complicated part is that there is no way to prevent the 8th grader from attending a private high school, even after they have trained with the public high school as an 8th grader.

And why should that be prevented . It is up to the parents to determine which High School their children to attend .

March 28, 201511 yr I would think there might be a restriction on this just because of insurance and liability.
March 28, 201511 yr By-Law 4 says the student must be enrolled in a Feeder pattern school to participate at the high school. Student can only participate for the school that they are enrolled in or under the control of the local school system, in which they are enrolled. Practice is considered participation, to participate you must be eligible. Edited March 28, 201511 yr by doubledeuce

March 28, 201511 yr Just a question, because I do not know the answer: Do Catholic High Schools allow public school 8th graders who are members of a feeder parish to practice with their high school team?
March 28, 201511 yr Author LAwildcat, Yes, the public HS would be the one they went to if they decided to go to public and not a private HS.

March 29, 201511 yr Just a question, because I do not know the answer: Do Catholic High Schools allow public school 8th graders who are members of a feeder parish to practice with their high school team? No at least at Trinity they don't. Trinity won't allow any 8th grader to participate in sports there even though KHSAA rules allow for it. After taking the placment test and applying to Trinity 8th graders are allowed to voluntarily workout in the weight room on a limited basis but only with other 8th graders not with the high schoolers.

They are not permitted to under By-Law 4. The same rules, can only participate if a member of the feeder school.
