With a .319 career OBP, Phillips is basically right at that average mark. And that is a touch unfair to him. During his time in Cleveland, before he put it all together, he logged a paltry .246 OBP in 462 plate appearances. In his time in Cincy, his OBP has been .325, just a shade over average. He has had an OBP above league average in three of his nine seasons in Cincy. Last season, when he posted a paltry .306 OBP — his worst in his nine years in Cincy — it was still better than the average National League second baseman. Again, I don't get the hatred for Brandon Phillips. You'll get no argument from me that he was a very good player. He's past that point of his career IMO. He may very well be better than the average NL second baseman. Not going to argue against that, especially if that's what the #'s say. I think he's pretty much done though. JMO, but I think we'll see another big dip in his numbers this year. And believe me I hope I'm wrong.

And believe me I hope I'm wrong. I can't see how anyone will disagree with this post. I will say I will disagree that we will see another big dip in his offensive numbers. If he can find a home, whether that be 2 or 7, I think we;'ll see the solid numbers I posted above. I hope you're wrong too
March 27, 201511 yr Career stats. OK. Makes sense. Frazier and Mesoraco are probably closer to Phillips now in career numbers. Even with the injuries I would guess if you look at the last couple years that Phillips is better than those two and probably better than Votto as well at hitting with runners on base. On the Reds, Phillips needs to hit in the middle of the order.
