Netanyahu is just like most politicians who has held an office too long, he needs to go! Period! The longer you hold an office the more you will do to keep that position.

He needs the further-right of his own party to support him unconditionally during elections but he needs to hold together his party coalition in order to maintain his parliamentary government or risk another dissolution like the one back in December. Specifically, he needs the centrist Yesh Atid party to stay in his coalition or quite likely lose out. Yesh Atid specifically believes the future of Israel will be determined by the rise of a secular middle class and explicitly favors a two-state solution. The decision to join with Netanyahu has been politically disastrous for them and they lost nearly half the seats they won two years ago in last week's election. It'll be them and the other centrist party, Kulanu, that determine whether his strategy paid off.

It sounds as though you were saying the only reason he addressed Congress was to get re-elected. I see it as he was trying to get assistance from Congress due to the fact that he keeps getting the middle finger from Obama.

Israel has the most efficient military in the world. Why are we worried about them and Iran? They'd decimate Iran if they ever tried anything.

If Israel ever attacks Iran, regardless of provocation, the rest of the region would cave in on them because they know Obama will most likely do nothing. If the US had a strong leader that was willing to help Israel defend themselves I would agree. With this administration we don't have that.

If Israel attacks Iran I wouldn't get involved either.

 

Now, if Iran attacked Israel, and they needed help, I can almost guarantee the US as well as UN would get involved, although I wouldn't be against staying out of it.

 

We need to stop getting ourselves involved in every conflict that goes on around the globe. We have enough issues to worry about here on our own soil. JMO

Israel is the one stable element in the Middle East and also one of our most loyal allies. The UN is openly hostile to Israel and toothless as far as I'm concerned. If Israel finds out that Iran has developed the capability to launch an attack against then they are fully within their rights to attack to prevent it. How many times has Iranian leadership threatened to wipe Israel out?

 

IMO this administration has made a HUGE series of foreign policy mistakes (how's that whole reset fiasco with Russia working out?) and his further weakening of ties with Israel may be the biggest gaffe yet.

^ while I agree that we need a stable Israel and we should help in anyway possible, and that we need to get involved as sitting on the sidelines will not keep us out. The Russia thing goes back 10- 14 years, the world made a huge mistake in trusting Putin from the very start, and he is not even close to being finished with what he is going to do.
