I agree very classless and as for coach of the year in 9th I think Richey is a good coach but don't think she should have got nor do I think Murphy should have gotten. The both of them returned 95% of their team from last year, Richey lost a senior who barley played from last year and Murphy lost 1 starter and gained Turner (A TRANSFER). Both of their season's went as expected accept Murphy winning the State Tournament. As for Holmes coach Perkins I wouldn't agree if he got, he also returned everyone plus transfers. Again my opinion but they all did what was expected in the 9th nothing more, no one overachieved accept Holy Cross winning it all but the voting went out before the state tournament.

Okay CAP, don't fall over again...but I'm going to agree with you! I love that JRich got it! She's my gal and it shows the respect of the other coaches for building a program and winning. The wrench I would throw in here is...if I wasn't going with Coach Richey, my argument would be for George Stoll. IMO, he did more with less than most of the others. That's not a knock on his girls at all, just saying that they made a nice run at it in a down year and after losing two really nice players to graduation and a key transfer for them.

 

Just another statement whether we like it or not...it's hard to vote for coaches that received an impact transfer or transfers. Again, not being mean or lessening anything. Just saying what a lot of people are thinking!

 

And the others have mentioned it too, it was done before their great run.

 

But here's my rant...I also heard rumors of people being upset over Turner not getting POY in d2 of the 9th. What is wrong with people? Why all the whining? Why is that such a big deal??? You just won a state championship and Turner is already committed D1. Why do you care about anything other than that at this point. Those other things are minor to those two accomplishments!

She made a go figure statement that took nothing away from anyone else or the nights even. People always trying to make something out of nothing.

But how do you go from presenting a prestigious award for POY to a great kid from Allen Co to talking about your brother not getting COY in the 9th region!!????!!!??? It's about that kid at that moment! Period!!! Air your bitterness somewhere else! It's not that fact of what she said so much, it's the stage and time she said it. WHY???

Just watched the video. Really? I see nothing wrong with it. If you listen to all she had to say, I say she was excellent. Was that one statement necessary? No. Did it take away from the award winner? No. Did it slight the voting in the 9th? No. If the voting was done after the tournament, I'd say Coach Murphy would have been coach of the year, but that's not how it's done and I'm good with that. Nothing against coach Richey(very deserving) or any other coaches. Anytime you bring family into a situation, anything can happen. Just think her statements about her brother were from the heart, and Donna wanted to recognize her brother. Put this thread to bed.

RCC9, I didn't fall out of my seat this time but we do agree a lot of things. In the 9th we are fortunate enoughto have a lot of good coaches that are deserving so coach Richy getting it doesn't bother to much. I think George Stoll was more deserving than anyone, he had athletes who could play just undersized but what he did was structure his team to what he had and did it well. A lot coaches won't go out of their confort zone regardless of what personnel they have and Stoll does that and is very good at adapting to his personnel. They were one big girl away from being very very good.

Had absolutely no problems with the girls that were selected POY last night, but I must admit I was shocked to see a freshman win for D1. I have been around Ally Niece since she was a fifth grader, so proud of that young lady.

Say what you want but if most of your teams won both state championships, you'd likely have billboards posted all around the state of KY about your "Coach of the Year." Lots of great coaches in the 9th region. Just sit back, relax and enjoy. :thumb:

No, I wasn't saying that at all. I'm just saying they have much bigger things to celebrate...why worry about this stuff to the point that it doesn't look so great.

They can say they are not biased and offer proof that they themselves are more critical of their own players than others. But that doesn't make them any more or less biased. And then throw in some long standing bad feelings about one school or another, or something that happened during the season, and no wonder these selections often get sideways. Would rather have an unbiased panel of media vote, but there's very little media left covering HS sports. Just my 2 dollars.

Most times it probably comes down to being a popularity contest.....maybe they don't like Murphy.....if Coach Murphy is like most coaches, he could not care less about the individual award. He can use the "scoreboard" cheer to set people straight. If he does care about the individual award, there is a problem IMO.

I have thought about it today.......it was his sister that said it.....not the coach himself. I would have a bigger "issue" with it if he had have said it. Who knows, he might wish that his sister hadn't have said it???
