Lets see. Ryle varsity played 1 inning, Simon Kenton varsity played 7 innings.

Let it go. It's the regular season. This is purely sour grapes. This game does not mean a lot it is not district seeding and it wont affect the post season. Sure Ryle's varsity didn't get all the PT, but in your desperation to let people know that, you are looking silly. And BTW I have no malice for Ryle, I know lots of good people from Union and have many cousins there.

Did SK somehow sabotage the Ryle bus? Did they trick Ryle somehow?

 

Let it go, my friend. In the big picture, what does it really mean?

Ryle is still one of the favorites to win the ninth region. And in my opinion, capable of beating anyone in Ky. on any given day. I have no ties to Ryle but have seen most of their players develop over the years. Probably one of the best JR. classes in the state, as far as talent.

 

Like I said before, Ryle can play with anyone. But what this Team and fans needs to realize is, that in high school baseball the best team doesn't allways win. Teams have their ups and downs during the season, and hopefully, by the end of the season you have worked out the kinks and have some MO going into district play. Last year Ryle could of won the region as well, even with a young Team, ala Becchwood in 2004. Another Team who was loaded with sophomores. The point is: Ryle needs to quit "thinking" their unbeatable and realize they to can lose on any given day, if they don't bring it every game.

 

The key is, realizing there is kinks. Can't be successfull by allways looking elsewhere to put the blame.

Here are some corrections, comments and insights for this thread. The final score of the game was 5-4 as it was a suspension and not a replay of a game suspended due to darkness.

 

There is a huge difference between a physical error, which I have never criticized on BGP and will never criticize, and a mental error. This play was a complete failure to be mentally into the game. 7 other players out there were at Prom and did not have a normal night of sleep, so prom is not an excuse.

 

Here's exactly what happened including field talk: Runner on second with two outs. Coach Roesel calls for an intentional walk to set up a force. The strategy works perfectly as the batter hits the ball right at the shortstop, who underhands the ball to the second baseman who goes to cover the bag. Second baseman steps on the bag and then steps off of it well before he catches the ball. Second baseman says to shortstop while the ball is in the air: Why are you throwing the ball to me? Shortstop says, tag the bag, tag the bag. The player just stands there. Then, I guess realizing the mental error, he drops his head and holds the ball while the winning run streaks across the plate.

 

This is what happened. The player is not mentioned by name. Nothing would have been said if this was a physical error. Coach Roesel had every right to blister the player for lack of focus that cost his team a game but I doubt that he said anything except to the entire team. He is a very fair coach and an even better man. He is finding out who can do what at what positions to prepare the team for the post-season. Even though our record is far short of where it should be at this point in the season, this was a painful learning process that will help us in the long run.

 

As for our college coach, we had to bite our lips to keep from laughing as his statement was hilarious. You had to know the Coach, who was a truly kind and funny gentleman, and his relationship with Buckley. I will never forget that incident as it was one of my funniest memories of college baseball even though the loss was painful at the time. The statement was not uncalled for. It was well deserved.

 

Again, congrats to SK. They won, we lost.

This may be a little off of the subject....but with two outs and the runner at first going on contact (and the ball being hit directly to the shortstop), why was the play not at first base. I know the second baseman made it to the bag, but I also do not blame him for being surprised that the throw came to him. In that situation, unless the ball is a "trouble" ball(where the play at first would be in doubt), my play would be at first. Coach should talk to the SS in addition to the second baseman.

If you have ever played the infield, you would know that you always make the play in front of you. SS would have turned back to his right and make a longer throw to first. Nothing wrong with the SS decision on that play.

Yes....I have played the infield before (even though, I will admit, it's been awhile)....and, I guess in this situation, I did not have complete information on the play from the previous post..... but, anyway,I was just curious why the original play did not go to first. I know the destination of the throw for the out would depend upon whether the ball was hit sharply or not and directly to a fielder, how fast the batter-runner is, how good of a jump the runner on first got,etc. I was just saying as a "general" rule, the play on a grounder with two outs is to first base. And, MAYBE, that's why the second baseman was slightly surprised by the throw from the SS. Your post cleared that matter up....and the second baseman should have been ready for the throw regardless..

You obviously did not see the play or hear the reaction of the Ryle fans, players or the Highlands players awaiting the winners of that game in the Ryle bleachers. Get over it. And since you know who I am, talk to me about it next time you see me.
