Middle schoolers suspended after officials say they tried to make margaritas at lunch

Featured Replies

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) - Several students were suspended for bringing alcohol onto school grounds at Kate Bond Middle School.

A Shelby County Schools spokesperson stated "A group of Kate Bond Middle School students were expelled last week after a teacher discovered they were in possession of alcohol on campus."

He later confirmed that 10 seventh graders were suspended.

Other students and a teacher who wanted to remain anonymous said the kids smuggled the alcohol in their backpacks and made margaritas during lunch.

"I mean, I'm not that surprised, kids this age and stuff. I mean, if they caught it, the school's doing their job," said Kate Bond parent Lindsay Stallings.

Some students were upset that this type of incident would happen on their school's campus.

"I mean, this stuff shouldn't be going on in school," said student Tyler Culpepper. "It's very inappropriate."

This type of incident is hazardous to the kid's education and could pose a potential threat to their health.

"And just the fact if you lose control by drinking, who knows what you'll act like and what's going to happen," said Stallings?

Though the students are technically expelled because their suspensions are for much longer than 11 days, parents can appeal the discipline.

Celebrating 31-0

Obviously the kids should be punished. But it's not the end of the world. It is funny.

Middle school seems a little young for margarita's but I still laughed. I guess I am what's wrong with this country.
