Ashland 1930 and 1938 Team Picture

Frances i have to agree on that ,they all have hair.

LOL - there are those that would tell you that the linemen in the early to mid 70's act like they played without helmets, much less facemasks... :D

That 1938 picture was taken in front of the old Ashland High School (later Coles Junior High, and now Alumni Gym and a church).

If you look at the right side of the picture, in the background, you can see the gym...

Man, I'm flashing back, looking at these.

For what it's worth, I don't think that the Estep in the picture is related to Greg and Chris.

Hey Jericho - notice how much better looking the linemen were back then? By the early to mid 70's, they were pretty ugly guys...

I miss the two Jr. High system.(Coles -Putnam Jr. High)

LOL - yes, I am a former Bronco. I didn't know that Penix had moved away, but then again, I can't remember the names of my own children about half the time...

I wonder where Penix went, and what he is doing now?

Like you, I really miss the days of two junior high schools feeding players into one high school. I remember the Buccaneers quite well. I can distinctly recall one lineman they had named Hickman, or Hackman (something like that). He was an ugly cuss, with a bad attitude, as I remember. I think he continued to play through high school, and became a decent lineman, in spite of having no real talent...

Do you remember him, as well?

:D :walk:

I remember him. The thing I remember most is that he didn't like contact. LOL

He became one of the best lineman ever!

Here is another one - 1926. In the corner with the H on his sweater is 1928 National Champion Coach James A. Anderson.

I would have to disagree with you on this one Frances. I think if you look at the recent pictures there are quite a few good looking young men. :D
